4 million or 400 million, they need to correct the issue at hand in downtown Chattanooga before sinking anymore money into the boon doogle at Enterprise South. The tax payers have been fleeced enough! Correct what is wrong. But lets see. There is the new facility to be built along Hamm Rd for the sewer plant, the funds for Volkswagen improvements, slowly they spend here and there putting a bandaide here or a patch there, never really fixing what is now outmoded and broken. How soon till an unfunded federal mandate comes down and the community is hit with ever higher taxes and user fees?

How stupid! Didn't Jerry Stewart state in an interview last week that seperating the combined sewer sytem downtown would cost 4 million dollars, but that the money could be better used else where? Now we know what he really meant! The City refuses to spend 4 million downtown, but is ready to drop 6.2 million for Volkswagen! Maybe if people saw what happens with the combined sewer system when there is a heavy rain downpour they would be outraged! The smell ain't nothin' compared to what happens when it pours rain! But Volkswagen is far more important. I guess what happens downtown with the combined sewers is out of sight and out of mind. Just don't breathe through your nose.

Amazing how great the law that City Council passed is working. You know the one banning guns in Collidge Park? Works really good as it creates a gun free zone for the good guys while the gang bangers prowl like predators. And those expensive cameras work wonders preventing shootings and gun play! Whats next from Littlefield and Company, a half million dollar study on what to do? Maybe more public art will soothe the savage breast. I just avoid downtown, it is not worth risking life and limb. RiverBend should be a blast, no pun intended. And those take home police cars would not have helped prevent this, as the majority of officers do not live in the City!

There is not an operating cost issue as the employees have not had a raise in 5 years! Does the public know about that? NO! The employees are blamed for cost over run, when in reality it is over spending on pet projects and groups! Every year the employees hear, "no funds for raises", yet they demand more of the employees. Then each contract with BC/BS the rates increase for employees, causing them to actually fall behind in pay. Where does it stop? End the public art program. Stop funding neighborhood groups. Let VW build its own bridge! Next we will hear about Littlefield using the windfall taxes from the failed City County agreement to build the TVA Parking Garage! When will these elitest politicos hear the voices of the common man? Why are they so out of touch with reality?

I think there is a need for the tax increase. I am a City employee and I would like to have a raise. The cost of everything goes up. Citizens want more services. More and more is demanded of City employees, yet there is never room in the budget for our pay increase. We steadily fall behind each year. Perhaps a little less given to community organizations? Stop funding CARTA, the buses are never filled. Stop the silliness of public art projects to build a legacy. But please, pay the employees a living wage, we serve the public as needed. Remember the underpaid City employee when you need your garbage picked up, or your sewers back up. There are more City employees than just firefighters and police officers. Also we live in the City and we are faced with the same tax increases.

I hope and pray that this silly veto is quickly over turned. All the fear, all the wild west tales are nothing but uneducated fear. If a person is legal to carry a concealed weapon and wants to dine out at a resturant like Olive Garden, O'Charlies, Logans Roadhouse, or any other place that serves food and alcohol, why does paranoia take over and eveyone screams that the gun owner is there to get drunk and then spray the resturant with bullets? You are far safer with the legally armed patron than the illegally armed and carrying thugs in your local parks and greenways.

People complain when areas are leveled as in strip mining, but for a store it is okay. Isn't the destruction of the Earth the same no matter the reason?
