A Hixson man will serve 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to a second-degree murder charge as part of a negotiated plea agreement.

Marquel Lane, 38, originally faced a first-degree murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of Justin Glover, a father of six. Prosecutors said both attended a Feb. 1, 2024, evening party near the 700 block of East 48th Street, where an argument began over a spilled drink.

The argument continued outside, Executive Assistant District Attorney Andrew Coyle said by email, and video showed Lane with a gun. Another person fired a weapon. That shot ended the confrontation and the parties separated.

Fifteen to 20 minutes later, Lane and Glover encountered each other again farther down the street. Audio captured gunshots, according to a prosecutor in court, but trees blocked the view.

According to Coyle, footage showed Glover running, and Lane shot him, striking him in the back. Glover walked toward an apartment he was staying at, collapsed and later died at a nearby hospital.
