Volkswagen has notified the federal government of a voluntary recall that affects nearly 58,000 of its Atlas-branded vehicles, citing cases where the rearview camera image did not display as intended.

“Under certain very specific conditions, low voltage events of unknown origin may potentially cause the failure of camera images to appear, including rearview camera images,” said a July 22 report published by the U.S. Department of Transportation. “Environmental conditions may have an effect, but there is no known systemic issue that has been identified as causing the combination of low voltage and other conditions required to result in the loss of camera images.”

The issue potentially involves 19,205 of the Atlas Cross Sport SUVs from the 2024-26 model years and 38,646 Atlas SUVs also from the 2024-26 model years.
