Good thing for Tennessee that this one didn’t count, either.

The Volunteers played their second basketball exhibition Tuesday night and were obliterated by Duke 103-64 inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. It was another rough defensive outing by Tennessee, as the Blue Devils shot 54.8% in the first half in building a 54-30 lead.

In last Thursday’s 86-70 loss to Xavier inside the Food City Center, the Vols allowed 59 second-half points on 70.4% shooting. Tennessee also also been outrebounded in the two exhibitions by a 90-60 margin, with Duke posting a 45-29 advantage Tuesday.

“We know we’ve got a lot going on with our program in terms of having so many new guys and starting from scratch,” Vols coach Rick Barnes said afterward in a news conference. “We’re still looking to see what we can find in terms of a group of guys who are going to compete. The first thing we’ve got to get as a team is a real fighting competitive spirit.

“We haven’t shown that at all.”
