There is loud, really loud and then Alabama at Tennessee loud.
The University of Tennessee announced Tuesday that Saturday’s 26-10 victory by the Volunteers over the Crimson Tide in Neyland Stadium set a record for the loudest scientifically verified crowd peak ever at a college football contest at 130.3 decibels, which is equivalent to a military jet taking off from an aircraft carrier. The school also revealed that there were 105 unique events during the rivalry game that exceeded 120 dB.
According to Tennessee, the previous verified noise standard was set by Penn State in 2007 when the Nittany Lions hosted top-ranked Ohio State.
“I feel like that was probably the loudest game I’ve been in,” Vols senior cornerback Kayin Lee said Monday in a news conference. “I don’t know. The Texas game was pretty loud also, but from that first drive, this last one was a loud game.”
