RINGGOLD — Fred Detona Hullender, 97, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024. He was born on July 14, 1926 to the late Luther and Alifair Hullender and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Hullender was Founder of the Ringgold Service Center. He enjoyed woodworking, farming, working on anything mechanical and was a jack of all trades.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Veta Hullender; long-time companion, Barbara Cantrell; brothers, Carl Hullender, Burl Hullender, Raymond Hullender; and sisters, Aline Hullender, Audrey Davis and Dorothy Nash.
Survivors include his son, Ronald (Betty) Hullender; daughter, Freddie (Lesley) Anderson; honorary daughter, Debbie (Johnny) Hicks; brother, Junior (Thelma) Hullender; grandchildren, Wendy (Gary) Rinker, Lori (John) Tidwell and Jamie (Amy) Perry; great-grandchildren, Zach (Megan) Reynolds, Brittany (Wally) Babb, Chris (Seantell) Reynolds, Morgan (Jordan) Darnell, Emily (Nate) Reynolds and Dylan Perry; great-great grandchildren, Kaydi, Jaxon, Skye, Tucker and Hollis; along with numerous nieces and nephews and his best friend Max aka “Sam”.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Parkside Nursing and Rehab and Willowbrook Hospice.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home parlor. Interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Willowbrook Hospice, 162 W. Main Street, Suite 306, Cartersville, GA 30120.
The family will receive friends 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
