Georgia's Murray sprains ankle

Georgia starting quarterback Aaron Murray sprained his right ankle during a pickup soccer game Saturday, much to the delight of Bulldogs fans.

The delight is the result of the injury being much less severe than the initial report, which was that the 6-foot-1, 209-pound redshirt sophomore had broken his ankle in two places. Georgia's student newspaper, the Red and Black, was the first to report the injury Monday and cited "team sources" regarding the broken ankle.

Murray was evaluated by team physicians Monday afternoon, and UGA director of sports medicine Ron Courson said X-rays taken were negative. Courson added that Murray will perform rehabilitation under the supervision of his staff and is expected to be available for the March 10 start to spring practice.

This past season, Murray threw for 3,049 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions. His yardage total ranked second among freshmen in Southeastern Conference history behind former Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen.

Despite Murray's brilliant year, the Bulldogs went 6-7 and did not defeat a team with a winning regular-season record for the first time since 1963.

Coach salaries set

New inside linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti will make $250,000 annually and new offensive line coach Will Friend will make $200,000, placing them in the middle of the Bulldogs financial coaching ladder. The three highest-paid assistants are defensive coordinator Todd Grantham ($750,000), offensive coordinator Mike Bobo ($325,000) and defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner ($290,000).

Rounding out Georgia's staff are secondary coach Scott Lakatos ($180,000), receivers coach Tony Ball and tight ends coach John Lilly ($165,480 each) and running backs coach Bryan McClendon ($90,000).
