2 area residents advance on 'American Idol'

Lauren Alaina Suddeth and Stormi Henley are going to Hollywood.

Suddeth, a Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe cheerleader, and Henley, the 2009 Miss Teen USA and daughter of Chattanooga golf caddy Kip Henley, from Crossville, Tenn., were featured on Thursday's episode of "American Idol" and were among the few to earn a golden slip of paper that means they're moving on to the next round.

Grammy award-winning music producer Randy Jackson and musicians Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith rolled into Nashville to judge hundreds of rising stars in preliminary auditions.

But impressing the judges enough to go to Hollywood is just the first step.

Though Fox, the network carrying the 10-year-old program, closely guards which contestants have advanced to the main show, only 60 contestants were allowed past the second round of auditions in Hollywood for the third round in Las Vegas, where another 40 were knocked out.

To see if one of them win the grand prize record contract with Universal Music, tune into Fox on Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8 p.m.
