Matt Magill, Chattanooga Lookouts eclipse Suns, 4-1

Scott Elbert was the first Chattanooga Lookouts player promoted to the Los Angeles Dodgers when their partnership began in the 2009 season.

The left-handed relief pitcher was back at AT&T Field on Tuesday night on a rehab assignment. Elbert faced two batters in the eighth inning, striking out both, to help preserve Matt Magill's stellar start as the Lookouts topped Jacksonville 4-1.

In 39 games with the Dodgers this season, the 27-year-old Elbert has a 2.45 earned run average. He has been out with an elbow injury since last pitching July 25 in St. Louis.

Elbert first played for Los Angeles in 2008, when he was promoted from Jacksonville, and made 12 appearances with the Lookouts in '09 before being called up again.

Magill already has been the Southern League pitcher of the week three times this season and made a bid for a fourth honor by allowing two hits in seven scoreless innings. He struck out 11 batters and walked one.

The game was scoreless until the seventh inning, when Luis Nunez led off with a double to left field and scored on a throwing error by Suns first baseman Ben Lasater on a Jake Lemmerman sacrifice. In the eighth inning, reigning league hitter of the week Brahiam Maldonado ignited a three-run rally that put the Lookouts (29-22) up 4-0 with an RBI bloop single into left field.

Chattanooga on Tuesday added outfielder Bobby Coyle, who was hitting .378 with 17 doubles and 32 RBIs at high Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. To make room for Coyle, a 10th-round pick of the Dodgers in 2010, outfielder Anthony Jackson was released after hitting .240 in 48 games.

Aaron Miller (5-6, 4.26 ERA) is scheduled to start tonight's 7:15 game for the Lookouts, with Graham Taylor (7-9, 3.85) scheduled for the Suns.
