The W Road on Signal Mountain will likely be closed until midweek because of a rock slide, officials said.
Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson said today that a 21-foot boulder slide off the mountainside and crashed down on the road. The site is about a quarter mile up the road from the lower traffic-control gate.
This afternoon, county highway department chief Harold Austin said it may take several days to clear the rock and reopen the road.
