Not The Beatles, but it's close

What: Black Jacket Symphony presents "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band."

When: 8 p.m. Thursday.

Where: Tivoli Theatre, 709 Broad St.

Admission: $35-$55.

Phone: 642-TIXS.

Seeing the Black Jacket Symphony perform is not the same as seeing The Beatles perform, of course, but every effort is made to honor, not imitate, the sounds of the Fab Four.

At least, this time around. On Thursday, the group will join the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera in a performance of The Beatles' eighth studio album, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." In addition to the title track, the 1967 album contains the hits "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" and "A Day in the Life."

The Black Jacket Symphony also performs some of the works of the Eagles, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and The Who, as well as The Beatles' "Abbey Road."

The Black Jacket Symphony is a one-of-a-kind concert experience. Musicians, selected for each concert, perform an album in its entirety. The emulation is music only, not look or costume.

The first set, according to the Black Jacket Symphony's website, features the re-creation of an album as a symphonic piece. The second set features the band's greatest hits, combined with a lights display and a more relaxed atmosphere. It's symphony meets rock 'n' roll.

In a February 2012 interview with the Chattanooga Times Free Press, Black Jacket Symphony founder J. Willoughby said he created the group because he wanted to give audiences the experience of listening to honored albums live.

"We perform classic albums in their entirety, just like you'd hear them on the record," he said. "We try to replicate these as note-to-note perfect as we can."
