Middle-class Joe Biden?

Dare to dream, Mr. Vice President.

From the mouth of Vice President Joe Biden to an audience in Ohio: "I get tired of being called a middle-class Joe, like somehow I'm just good old Joe and, oh, I don't dream."

And from the website of The Weekly Standard magazine: "[A] reliable real estate web site ... estimates the worth of Biden's Wilmington, Delaware, home ... to be a cool $2,856,950. (This does not appear to include the cottage on the Biden estate, which the vice president rents out to the Secret Service for more than $12,000 per year.)"

Meanwhile, the value of Biden's and wife Jill Biden's reported assets, according to Bloomberg, is somewhere between $239,000 and $866,000.

Undaunted by his transparently other-than-blue-collar standing, Biden lamented in his Ohio stemwinder: "I don't think these guys understand us. ... What do they think we think in our houses? We're like the rich guys: We have dreams, we have aspirations."

More to the point, Mr. Vice President, you have money. And that's OK.

But it's baffling trying to figure out exactly what "we" you are talking about. Have you suddenly been appointed the Norma Rae of the federal government? Are you bucking to play Tom Joad in a remake of "The Grapes of Wrath?"

And who in his right mind keeps calling you "middle-class Joe?" Warren Buffett?

Come hang out in Chattanooga for a week. We'll be nice to you. Really.

And we promise nobody will ever think to label you middle class.

Yep, Joe Biden is a pretty embarrassing character in this tragic comedy of politics.

What is really amazing is people voted for and still vote for this fool.

What seems to be the most amazing thing, is that in the sad political state of "lesser evils", there are still so many blind foolish folks who hoot and cheer for a side as thought they are at a football game.

Right joneses?.. Go team go!!

Oh, and try to keep your wigglin conniptions under control today, your bad health is driving up our insurance costs..

I assume the purpose of this editorial is to make the Vice President look foolish. Indeed, the editor would find it foolish for a politician to be worth less than a million ($866k or less) after years in office.

Like anyone would have to put any effort into making "good ole Joe" look bad. He seems to have that wrapped up all on his own.

I bet Biden will "come and hang out in Chattanooga for a week" long before Romney will!

If having money excludes one from being middle class, then Romney is closer to being Saudi Sheik Class!!

May 23, 2012 at 11:18 a.m.

And yet not one mention of Romney's claims that he knew what it was like to be poor.

So poor you had to sell some stock options to last you through college.

So poor you only drive a couple of Cadillacs, and have a couple of houses...

Or you know, stop trying to butcher people's quotes to make attacks.

HWNB, interesting how you mix the past and the present to make your point.

I really enjoy how people complained that the former VP was on the board or owner of Halliburton, but see nothing wrong with the current VP renting a home to those Secret Services Agents that are getting paid to protect him. This is yet another double cost that everyone likes to over look.

May 23, 2012 at 12:44 p.m.

Biden's net worth is poor to Romney! You Romney supporters don't stand a chance. Get on board the new direction the country needs desperately to be in or get the hell out. Your 1% ideals belong in the middle east or in the arctic where you can do little damage to the rest of us with your pompous, racist and obviously absurd theories!

May 23, 2012 at 12:53 p.m.

Wow speaking of Illusions. Just what is the new direction? The one for the past several years where our national debt has tripled, or could it be the one where we still have no balanced budget, or better yet the one where no matter how they try to doctor the numbers more Americans are unemployed than any other time in our country? I guess it could be the direction of every leader of every other foreign nation thinks of the POTUS as nothing more than a joke and has no trust in him. If that is the direction you want to keep going then by all means be foolish enough to vote for him again while the smart people of the world hope to make America a great nation again.

Wow! Renting a cottage to the Secret Service for $12+k/yr! Mr. Biden must need a snow shovel to get all that money into the bank.

Joe Biden is a career politician and a big hypocrite. How does a career politician afford a $2 million house? I wonder....

May 23, 2012 at 3:03 p.m.

Wow, the American tax payers having to pay for both the secret service to protect the VP and for the rental price of the cottage is ridiculous no matter what the amount.

After reading IllusionofDemocracy's post, I agree... I think we all need to get on board and going in the new direction. Let's send all the evil money out of our country, to the Middle East or the Arctic. We'd be hard pressed to do away with it or devalue it any quicker than Obama is already doing.

Let's all thank Eduardo Saverin, the facebook co-founder, he has gotten off to a good start taking his billions to Singapore.

My Gosh IllusionofDemocracy...what a dumba$$ post!

lovetheusaorleave thinks sleeping bags on the sidewalk is good enough for the Secret Service.

May 23, 2012 at 4:31 p.m.

No LibDum I just dont think tax payers should have to pay for the same service twice. But I guess you dont have a problem with the millions of tax payer money thrown away by this administration on failed bankrupted energy companies either.

lovetheusaorleave, I think you really believe these agents should travel at their own expense. Conservatives live in a bizarre world.

May 23, 2012 at 7:16 p.m.

Wow thank you so much for trying to tell me what I believe, because no where have I said that. Just another case of trying to force what you think is right down someones throat. But you are wrong and what is more scary, you are blinded by your own ignorance to see it.

C'mon joneses, I'm just ribbin ya about your undue fervor for far right over far left. Why don't you scootch this way a little and see how the world isn't such a bad place when viewed from a perspective closer to the middle ground.

You can even lean right or left on specific issues that require a close and concise assessment paired with a broad consideration.

Us "normal" folks (a stretch I know) would not judge you poorly just because we couldn't pin you with a party label.

Oh, and your shift button is adding percents and dolla's amidst your sentances...
