Sewanee tree-lighting is Friday

The shops of downtown Sewanee, Tenn., will light up on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Angel Park for the first "Lighting of the Christmas Tree."

Santa Claus will be there and parents are encouraged to bring their cameras for photos with Santa and the kids.

The community party will double as a toy drive for Operation Noel. Organizers request that attendees bring new, unwrapped toys, which will be collected by the Sewanee Fire Department. Gifts of money and food will also be collected for the Community Action Committee.

Refreshments will be served. The Sewanee Chorale will lead Christmas carols.
