Reporter Perla Trevizo interviews a Burundian refugee in Mtabila Camp in Tanzania.
    Ismael Misigaro

With a grant from the Ford Foundation, Chattanooga Times Free Press reporter Perla Trevizo spent two weeks in Burundi and refugee camps in Tanzania interviewing the families of the Burundian refugees who resettled in Chattanooga in 2007. She also spent three months interviewing half a dozen Burundian refugees here, the director of Bridge Refugee Services, teachers, volunteers and other members of the community that have worked with the Burundian families since their arrival. Translators were used in the interviews with Burundians both here and in Africa. She also consulted two books about Burundi's civil wars and refugees.
