Police: Shooting at university isolated incident

MARIETTA, Ga. - Police say they're seeking a suspect who fired shots during an altercation with another person in a back parking lot at Southern Polytechnic State University in a greater Atlanta suburb and then fled on foot.

Authorities described the shooting about 6 p.m. Tuesday on the Cobb County campus as an isolated incident, adding it prompted a lockdown lasting some two hours while police conducted precautionary checks of buildings.

Marietta police spokesman David Baldwin says the apparent victim was later located and was being questioned. He declined to immediately identify the person or say whether the individual was wounded.

Baldwin says the altercation involved only those two people and was an isolated incident. He says classes were in session though police have interviewed witnesses among some people outside at the time.
