Rhea County's Jacob Matthew set for Sewanee

Rhea County defensive tackle Jacob Matthew will be playing football next season for Sewanee, a member of the NCAA Division III Southern Athletic Association.

"Jacob is very physical. He's a good leader. I'm really excited for him to continue playing football at a quality school," said Doug Greene, who coached Matthew last fall. "I think Sewanee really found itself a great player. He will definitely fill a hole in their defense."

The 6-foot-2, 290-pound Matthew had 31 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, four sacks, two fumbles caused and a fumble recovery last season for Greene's Golden Eagles.

Holsey, McCoy to Berry

East Hamilton linebacker Chas Holsey and defensive end Ryne McCoy, who was named the District 6-AA academic athlete of the year, have signed football letters of intent with Berry College, another SAA member.

Both were on East Hamilton's inaugural football team and now will be part of Berry's first.

Also, Whitwell linebacker Ben Sartin and defensive lineman Austin Grayson will continue their football careers at Division III Maryville College.

Furman likes Lenoir

East Hamilton tight end Patrick Lenoir, who has spent the spring getting ready for summer camps and the Hurricanes' first season in District 5-AAA, has received a scholarship offer from Furman.

Lenoir, whose father, Patrick, was an offensive lineman at Tennessee, was at Appalachian State's spring game on April 20.

Tucker to Dodge City

Red Bank wide receiver Chris Tucker has signed scholarship papers with Dodge City (Kan.) Community College.

Tucker, who played some defense also for the Lions, had 42 catches for 577 yards with seven touchdowns in the 2012 season.
