2013 - Silverdale Baptist Academy Seahawks

Nathan Keylon will be among those trying to replace departed standout Spencer Mossburg.

Silverdale Baptist Academy Seahawks

Coach: Al Rogers (14-8 in two seasons here and overall)

Last year: 10-2, lost 28-20 to Grace Christian in the second round of the playoffs.

‘13 dreams: The Seahawks had their best season last year but are seeking a first league title. They have high hopes with returners at eight spots on each side of the ball. They’ll miss quarterback Spencer Mossburg, but having 12 seniors will help fill his leadership void. Silverdale doesn’t play defending district champion Boyd-Buchanan until the last week, and that’s when SBA was playing its best last year. Running back and linebacker Josh Rogers (6-foot, 185) was a two-way standout as a junior. He topped the 1,000-yard mark in rushing, had 62.5 more tackles than any teammate and tied for the team lead with six interceptions. Matt McCulley (5-11, 185) led the Seahawks in rushing, and fellow senior Colton Rogers (6-4, 225) led in receiving.

Number of interest: Last season Silverdale’s victory total was three higher than in 2007, which has been the only other winning season in the program’s eight-year history.

13 years ago: The program did not exist.

1-through-3: Senior two-way tackle Ben Bower

Q. What is the mood of this year’s team, coming off the best season in school history?

A. Personally, and I think I can speak for the whole team, last year means nothing this year. Whatever kind of season you had, good or bad, doesn’t dictate how this season could be. We’re not overconfident. We’re ready to play.

Q. What is your biggest concern?

A. Honestly, I don’t really have too many concerns. I guess it’ll be people stepping up, and I’m talking about in all walks. Us seniors have leadership roles. The underclassmen need our encouragement for them to play their hardest.

Q. What can this team accomplish if it plays like it’s capable?

A. State championship. By all means.
