about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

At least we are not like North Korea where Kim Jung Un with no military experience whatsoever before Daddy made him a four-star general. This snot-nosed twerp had never accomplished anything in his life that would even come close to military leadership. He hadn't even so much as led a Cub Scout troop, coached a sports team, or commanded a military platoon. So he is made the "Beloved Leader" of North Korea . Terrific!

Uh Oh....Did we do about the same thing? We took an arrogant community organizer, A guy who had never worn a military uniform or had a real job, worked on a budget, or led anything more than a demonstration, and made him commander and chief, our President, twice.

@Fairmon: Sorry. There's no equivalency between succession of leaders in North Korea to our own. Compare your own words: "Daddy made him..." and "We took...". There's a chasm between one man choosing his successor and some 300 million of us choosing our President.

And, despite your desire for a president to have "worn a uniform, had a real job, worked on a budget": you know there are only two requirements to be president: 1. age 35 2. natural born citizen of the United States. Anyone who can convince 270 electors as chosen by their states' population will become president.

To the people for whom he worked for in Chicago, as a community organizer and a practicing attorney, many consider the man to have worked a real job for years. He worked to improve the lives of people that most of America would rather ignore and forget.

As a successful author, the man has earned several million dollars.

You might not like the way that he earned a living for himself and his family, but you have nothing whatsoever to base your statement upon.

As someone pointed out, there is a very short list of qualifications that one has to meet in order to be eligible to run for President of the United States, and contrary to your belief, it does not require one to have served so much as a day in the military, to have ever held any position as CEO of anything more than their own home, and can definitely include someone who has worked to improve the lives of the poorest and the blackest skinned people on the planet.

Many people are totally unaware of the fact that for many years, Barack Obama was paid by the Catholic Church for the work he performed in improving neighborhoods in Southern Chicago.

That don't make him Jesus, but he most certainly isn't Mohamed either.

Like it or not, Barack Obama is the CEO of these United States, he will be for the next four years, and it's long past time for people to start acting like the grownups that they are capable of being and to unite and if nothing else, try to put their petty differences aside and wish for better days to return for everyone, no matter who resides in the White House.

And yet the lame stream media continues to report GOP opposition as if it were legitimate news and itemize their objections as if they were actual concerns. OMG.

For the immediate future the republican caravan will roll along, stopping periodically to raise a tent or two before promptly folding them up again. They don't know where they're going, where they're coming from, and they've forgotten why they're stuck in a god-forsaken desert.

"With all the gun fire going on in the Windy City now a days Obama, as usual, F$%^ed things up real, real good."

But of course. Morgan Freeman was on vacation back then and he forgot to gift Obama with the powers to wave his magic wand to transform an entire city into a Utopian paradise.

You wouldn't know a "winner" if one bit you on your schnoz. If you want to discover what a real loser looks like, I suggest that you take a gander in the mirror.

The day that this newspaper desires to consult the opinion of a serious pretentious idiot, I'm sure you will be called immediately.

'Obama simply likes to keep his golf buddies close at hand, after all Barry played more than 100 rounds of golf last year alone."

Are you mathematically proficient? Divide 100 by 52, to discover that the man played less than two rounds of golf per week. I have several relatives who play double that amount every week`, and each one of them have no issues in keeping up with the demands of their businesses.

Since you have pointed this out, the thought came, now I can use both of the words in the same sentence.

Since this Republic is going through many "adversities," with need of people who can/will help correct them, why is there so much concern being placed on the President maintaining a "diversity"? I continue to see that there are people who still do not get the difference between a recession and what a great depression causes. Also what were the policies of the Republicans during the four years, from 1929 - 1932 before FDR's policies could be applied in 1933? Were the Republicans without any plans to end the 1929 great depression before FDR took the office and even after he took the office?
Does anybody see any similarities between the how the Republicans were acting then and the anti Obama people are acting now?

Maximus, the pretentious one, since you are interested in the number of rounds of golf that the President has played while in office, I thought you might like to know the facts.

I was incorrect earlier in citing that the President played golf twice a week. Your claim was incorrect as well.

As of the minute I am writing this, the President has played a total of 113 rounds of golf since he has been in office.

In seven days, he will have been President for exactly four years.

As of today, he has been President 1,453 days. 1,453 days divided by 113 equals a round of golf every 13 days on average.

But, as we know, keeping a regular schedule of golfing dates is not always possible when you are President of the United States.

Over the one week shy of four years, there have been stretches of 21, 25, 30, 38, 44, 48, 59, 78, 90, 92, all the way up to 98 days without the President finding time to play a round of golf.

He plays golf most often while on vacation, hitting the greens wherever he may be every day.

Your obsession with how much golf the President has played is noteworthy, but rather misplaced.

You previously claimed to have a really nice set of golf clubs. Not that I believe for one second that you do have a set, but it does bring up a valid question.

How often do you play a round of golf in the over-active imagination of yours? When you respond, don't forget to include all the details, like the color of your $10,000 hand-crafted golf cart, the number of holes on your estate, etc.

Inquiring minds are eager to worship and envy the life of a truly rich man, who has time enough to share it with us peons.

I never claimed to know what you would love. But I know what ideas your party espouses and how little sense they make.

I never implied that you said "seniors, vets and the disbled don't deserve their pay". I said that "your ilk should love that idea" considering how they demonize the "47 %". Those people (seniors, veterans, and the disabled) ARE the 47 %. You know, "the takers", "the entitlement society". I thought your ilk wanted entitlement reform? I guess not with the way you're talking.

And I'm the negative one? I scoff at your hypocrisy and lack of reading comprehension.

Oh yeah, do not forget, the biggest misconception is that you can give up your guns and leave your protection to the government.

170 million people were killed at the hands of their own government in the 20th century. As tragic as Sandy Hook was, it is nothing compared to what governments have proven themselves capable of, over and over again.

Re, the cabinet room cartoon,

In addition to “And here we have the Presidents man cave”. I wish Clay would’ve added, “In this room drones are launched and it’s where the really impressive weapons are sold to REALLY CREEPY people with nary a background check or psychological screening.

I have commented numerous times about the double standard applied by the Govt., various gun control groups and those posting here. Some the logic, lies by omission and ignorance make me cringe.

Take for example,

The Obama administration is reportedly going to call on Congress to pass a new ban on assault weapons, as well as one on high-capacity ammunition magazines.” It is WE that need to be corralled in our gun crazy zeal, but the Military Industrial Complex in their weapons crazy zeal – not so much.

Amazing isn’t it?

Within the present gun control context: no one -- not pundits, politicians, or reporters -- seems to see the slightest contradiction in an administration that calls for legal limits on advanced weaponry in the U.S. (AK’s AR’s etc.) and yet is working assiduously to remove barriers to the sale of advanced weaponry overseas.”

The Pentagon is the largest federally licensed weapons dealer on the planet and its goal is to create a world in which the rights of those deemed our allies to bear our (most advanced) armaments ‘shall not be infringed’. The Pentagon, it seems, is intent on pursuing its own global version of the Second Amendment, not for citizens of the world but for governments including autocratic/Islamic states like Saudi (ptui) Arabia which are perfectly capable of using such weaponry to create Newtowns on an unimaginable scale.

A well regulated militia indeed.

Jon,

You may be more right than you know...

You imply that people who post on a website make the NPR website shows that NPR is left leaning.

It is quite possible that you are correct. (And doubtless, from your perspective you are correct.)

Yet using your logic, since the posts on Clay's cartoons are generally from two sides, then Clay must present a balanced opinion.

(Of course, I don't believe that. Clay is left. And funny, which is a matter of opinion.)

I think NPR plays things pretty straight, about half the time giving the Right the last word, about half of the time giving the Left the last word.

Most of my conservative friends see NPR as liberal.

Most of my moderate friends see NPR as in the middle.

What few true liberal friends I have see NPR as right-center, though I have known people who see them right.

I think it depends where on the political spectrum you are. If you are very far right then the mainstream looks like it's on the left.

I do think there are a LOT of stories which NPR does not cover. If you watch Fox and only see the missing Fox stories on NPR, you'd also think NPR was biased toward the left. And the opposite is true for MSNBC.

Overall, I think they try to get it right. They seem generally reasonable and willing to listen to multiple view points. I don't hear them shouting down their guests and, in fact, sometimes they are too polite.

In truth, the majority of Americans do not find NPR biased, so it does say something about me that I don't detect an overall bias. It says I'm with the majority. It says I'm not on the far right.

Both would be correct.

Jon, neither your opinions or mine are proven fact.

I do believe that almost everyone working at NPR is more liberal than you. But that does not make them liberal. They may be liberal, but that does not mean their reporting is biased.

FAIR says they are Right slanted. AIM says they are Left. CPB-sponsored two studies to see if NPR was perceived as biased by the American public and the results said most Americans see them as balanced.

So who do we believe? FAIR is a left organization. AIM is the right. CPB is, well, basically the parent of NPR. And what parent doesn't want to see their child the best light?

I did not agree with the firing of Juan Williams after what he said on Fox about Muslims making him nervous on airplanes. I think that was an embarrassment for NPR executives.

I think NPR reporters covered that story well, by the way, and quite fairly.

In fairness to you, I will say if they tip slightly one way, I will say they tip to the left because they treat alternative voices and points of view with respect.

How many of the voters would go along with being; repressed, regressed, oppressed, depressed, digressed or suppressed with new morality laws? If this what the voters want, then this is what the Republicans will do for them. Move them back into the "stone age" if they get back into control. Why do the Republicans' only have plans for widening the wage gap, as has happened from the effects of the global economy and not helping the private sectors in recreating the needed manufacturing/production jobs here?

There were more VOTERS "coming to their senses" in the November 6, 2012 election, realizing that this Republic's substainability had to be based on a more truthful path than what the "enemies" of President Obama were trying to LIE and BUY him out of the office.

The voters decided on November 6, 2012 on which direction they wanted this country taken and whom they wanted to be the leader for the next four years.
