The Welcome Mat

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

IT'S NOT A MATTER OF VOLUME

Bobby Jindal said it best. To appeal to more voters Republicans have to stop being the stupid party. The way the party is structured now, however, I don't see that happening. Apparently the GOP powers that be are also in the dark. Heck, they lost the White House, lost seats in the Senate, and only kept the House through some slick redistricting. Nationwide democratic House candidates got 1,000,000 more votes.

People are not confused about republican politics. Governor Jindal noted that during the primary Todd Akin made some stupid remarks about abortion which reflected badly on other republican candidates. How is that possible? VP candidate Paul Ryan sponsored legislation criminalizing abortion with no exceptions. The GOP platform contained a 'No abortion, no exception,' plank.

Troubled pregnancy? Too bad. Mother might die? Tough.

Vote for us anyway.

This cartoon is accurate but could apply to either party. The economy in and around D.C. is flourishing. Limo services galore and make big money. The average compensation is second to none. The private jet hangers are full and the number of landings at the private run way for private jets are at record levels. Try making a reservation at the more expensive restaurants in D.C., you will find them to be scarce yet extremely expensive. The average wine sales in D.C. is the highest in the U.S. Special interest realize a better return on the lobbying investments than on their business investments. Check out GE and how they avoided taxes received various grants and other accommodations as just one example. Many businesses have former political figures on their board of directors or have them employed as lobbyist. It has become a family matter with spouses and other relatives holding various well connected positions. The federal government extracts from the people and spends about 4 trillion a year, 25% of the GDP. The U.S. federal government is the largest business and largest employer in the world and growing fast. Those elected become hooked on the prestige, power, pampering, influence and will do what it takes to retain and gain. There is no incentive to make the operations more efficient and effective to reduce the number employed.

When will enough Americans realize what is being done to them instead of for them? Have we already been duped too long? Is it coincidence that the increase in lobbyist and members of congress becoming wealthy or more wealthy are proportional? Sequestration will not happen as it is supposed to. Congress not getting paid until a budget is passed is another scam. It will be held in escrow for them and not one of them will have any hardship since the salary is not the attraction to the job.

Why do they not admit that eliminating America of congress and the Supreme court and appointing obastard a dictator is their true agenda? These liberal dummycraps are to chicken sh!t to tell us what they want to change the country to and where they want to move the country forward to. I and others know their agenda. If you had actually been listening to what most liberals have been saying you would know that we do NOT think that droning innocents is ok. Unlike you Bush lackeys who never called out your puppet - I mean, president - for anything at all, we are not so impishly infatuated with Obama that we excuse him for everything he does. Many, if not most, of us have criticized him for his use of drones. We think it's despicable. We also have called him out because of his signing of the NDAA and the extension of the Patriot Act. Also, we think he should have gotten us out or Iraq and Afghanistan on day one of his taking office, not extended those wars for as long as he has. Not to stop there, we find it troubling that he has not taken a firmer stance on legalizing marijuana, especially when the latest polls are showing that the majority of Americans are in favor of it. And there are other things that we have faulted him for.

Your comment is a perfect example of how you don't really listen to anything we say, you just spout off at the mouth like the programmed right-wing cyborg that you are. And don't give us that line that you are a "moderate," as you've claimed to be before. You are as extreme right as any of the other wing-nuts on here.

Goes to show how much the minds of conservatives are stuck in the past. Democrats today are no more the party of Jefferson Davis or Jim Crow than Republicans are the party of Lincoln. One of our biggest problems is trying to deal with a GOP who cannot come to terms with the present. They fight like hell to take us back to a time in the past that they think was their "glory days" (that really weren't so glorious, actually) and refuse to come to terms with the reality of the present.

I believe the situation is beyone stupid, Blackwater48. The reality is that many these Republican represenatives are simply nuts and unfit to rule. . . like this one:

”A Republican lawmaker in New Mexico introduced a bill on Wednesday that would legally require victims of rape to carry their pregnancies to term in order to use the fetus as evidence for a sexual assault trial.”

House Bill 206, introduced by state Rep. Cathrynn Brown (R), would charge a rape victim who ended her pregnancy with a third-degree felony for "tampering with evidence."

“Tampering with evidence shall include procuring or facilitating an abortion, or compelling or coercing another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime," the bill says."

Mountainlaurel, I caught wind of this idiotic piece of legislation, too. At first I was dumbfounded to hear of it, but then I asked myself why I should be surprised by something like this any longer. It has become commonplace for some member of the GOP to come up with something so far-fetched that it makes the previous nutty idea from them pale by comparison. There seems to be no limit to their lunacy.

A rape victim has already been traumatized, victimized, brutalized, and possibly almost killed, but the Republicans try to find ways of adding insult to her injury. If she gets pregnant from the rape, then it is somehow "God's will," and she is supposed to turn her lemons into lemonade and make a precious little child of God from it. And if she decides to have it aborted, as most women would reasonably want to do, she is further victimized by being made out to be a murderer and now... a destroyer of incriminating evidence.

Bennett's cartoon today is spot on. The GOP is sinking ever deeper into its own sewage, doing all that it can to out-stupid itself and out-do itself for barbaric idiocy.

Just because they aren't calling him a Marxist Muslim doesn't mean they are "kissing his ass". President Obama has been criticized much more than Bush II, especially by Republicans. The hate speech is continuous from the Right. Look no further than Fox News for proof.
