East Ridge police responded to an early afternoon shooting on Monday, according to East Ridge spokesman Robert Wade.

When police arrived at 5425 Marion Ave., they found Clarisa Smith, 43, dead. They also found 35-year-old Andre Smith unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound with labored breathing.

Smith was taken in critical condition to Erlanger hospital for treatment.

The East Ridge Police Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the shooting.

"After a preliminary death investigation, it appears to be an attempted murder-suicide," Wade said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call East Ridge Police at 423-867-4503.

This is the second suspected murder-suicide in the East Ridge area this month.

On July 3, family members discovered James and Susan Ingram dead in their Wimberly Lane home, each with a single gunshot wound to the head.

James Ingram was found holding a small handgun. According to police, initial reports indicated James Ingram shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.
