Clay and other liberals believe Detroit is a success story and they believe our Federal Government is a success story as well.

The only reason the Federal Government has not gone broke so far is because they continue to print money.

People are living in a fantasy land if they believe we can continue on this path and not end up like Detroit in the very near future.

We have regulations and laws for everything including morals but none for honest, moral and objective governance. The constitution has been pretzeled to accommodate a growing and more centralized government. The states have aided the growth of the giant by selling their soul for grants, subsidies, incentives and party loyalty. How Americans value morals will be revealed if Eliot Spencer and Anthony Weiner are elected in New York. How much would taxes need to be increased to meet expenses and maintain the rate of growth of government, thirty three percent at each of the current rates? It is like buying a car, most people paying cash opt for fewer extras than those buying on credit. Increase taxes enough to pay for all people demand of the government and most likely less will be demanded.

Nobody would call Detroit a success story. Detroit suffers from what most of this nation suffers from at the moment, on steroids.

Detroit was once the manufacturing capital of the world. Good paying jobs were plentiful. People bought and paid for houses. Revenue flowed like water into the City's coffers.

Detroit did well for many years because they were able to protect their turf successfully. Nobody crossed the big three. They were able to fend off competition with the aid of our national politicians.

Global competition is what slowly choked the life out of Detroit.

While the quality of American cars has fallen, those of imports have risen. It's as if the American design for autos includes a time bomb in them to go off, preventing most of them to last more than a few years without major repairs. If quality had remained a number one goal, foreign cars would not have ever gained a foothold. Blame the management or blame the workers. It doesn't matter. Ford is the only American automobile company that has survived by striving to make attractive and durable vehicles.

Unions and their incessant demands for more and more and more also choked the life out of the American automobile industry. When the jobs went, so did those who could afford to move to where they could find a decent job.

Only the poorest of the poor have been left to dominate the population of Detroit. Falling revenues due to declining population and the massive eradication of good jobs have decimated the cities resources.

Blaming Democrats for Detroit's fall is like blaming the Europeans and the Asians for kicking America's ass by making quality, less costly consumer products.

While Americans have been sitting atop their perches in the belief that they were number one, the rest of the world has been working to topple us from those perches, and they have done it too.

How many more Detroit's will have to happen before Americans wake up, stop beating their chests, and realize that we are no longer the greatest nation in the world?

The global empire is about to swallow us whole.

If our government functioned as a stradivarius (as liberals imagine), the cartoon would make a good point. Government growth, however, is a drag on the wealth creators, those who actually employee people, innovate, and supply what the country and the world demand. Free markets have not been tried and found wanting. They are barely allowed to be function anymore, in our enfeebled, poorly-educated workers’ paradise.

What happened to the economy in the 1990s, when Clinton was forced by Congress to declared the era of big government over – all too temporarily as it turned out? How does it compare with the nanny state run amok, which has dominated the market since then? Far from being a stradivarius, big government is the fiddle played as Rome – ever increasingly too big for its breeches – burned.

Saw away. Allow the orchestra to re-form.

PlainTruth, obviously you are very correct about labels which is unfortunate because we never get to a debate on the issues.

inquiringmind indicated that we don't know how bad it would have been if government didn't act... This is the same argument used by politicians at all levels in both parties to justify the miserable failure of government intervention. How can I argue with things that never happened? The reality: Goverment intervention always stifles organic healing of economic woes by paralyzing private citizens from solving their own problems as they wait for the promises of big government to save them. And they wait... and they wait... and they wait. Even large corporations are not immuned: don't you remember the lament of the Democratic party after the stimulus package - corporations are sitting on piles of cash. Why is that? It is because they have no clarity on the regulatory and fiscal direction this government is going to go in. They also are addicted to welfare like the rest of us. I don't blame corporations or individuals for taking welfare. I blame the government for offering it.

Stockton and San Bernadino also filed for bankruptcy. So where were you guys attacking then? San Bernadino in 2012 and now Stockton 2013. Stockton is the third California city to file for bankruptcy. Mammoth Lakes is another one.

Here's a list of other cities, municipalities that have filed for bankruptcy since 2010:

All Municipal Bankruptcy Filings: 36 (There have been 36 in all/Here you'll find 8 of them, and they don't make cars either).

General-Purpose Local Government Bankruptcy Filings (8): -- City of Detroit -- City of San Bernardino, Calif. -- Town of Mammoth Lakes, Calf. (Dismissed) -- City of Stockton, Calif. -- Jefferson County, Ala. -- City of Harrisburg, Pa. (Dismissed) -- City of Central Falls, R.I. -- Boise County, Idaho (Dismissed)

I will tell you the major contributor: Net Bonded debt. Are you for PILOT agreements? Are you for tax increment financing? Are you for using public grants for housing developments and for "job creation"? Are you for using these kinds of deals to "attract" large corporations? These were the things that killed Stockton and Oakland (under then mayor Jerry Brown). The Tea Party when it is properly focused is the ONLY political party I know of that comes close to fighting this stuff. Did you know Any Berke sponsored the legislation that brought TIF to Tennessee? It was unanimously approved by the entire assembly. Statistician Nate Silver predicted Monday that the GOP will likely have 50 to 51 Senate seats after the 2014 midterm elections, potentially enough to reclaim a Democratically-controlled body since 2006.

“A race-by-race analysis of the Senate, in fact, suggests that Republicans might now be close to even-money to win control of the chamber after next year’s elections,” wrote Silver at the FiveThirtyEight blog Monday.

How much lower will you sink to raise Zimmerman to sainthood, zable? That's really low.

Actually, the royal baby was named after Prince William's great-great-grandfather King George VI, the Queen's father. The name Louis is one of Prince William's middle names. Louis is also likely to be a tribute to Lord Louis Mountbatten, the Duke of Edinburgh's uncle and the last British Viceroy of India before independence in 1947.

From: Daily Mirror co. uk:

"Mountbatten and William's father the Prince of Wales were very close, with Charles confiding in his relative. He was known by the Royal Family as Uncle Dickie and was assassinated by the IRA in August 1979, three years before William was born. His boat was blown up on a fishing trip off the coast of County Sligo, Republic of Ireland.

"George comes from the Greek for earth-worker or farmer, and dragon-slaying St George is the patron saint of England. Alexander derives from the Greek word meaning protector of men while Louis is the French and English form of the German name Ludwig, which means famous warrior or famous in battle.

King George VI took George as his regnal name when he became king after his brother's abdication, but his full name was Albert Frederick Arthur George and he was known as Bertie to his family.

Finally, The name: Alexander as stated from the Daily Mirror co. uk:

There has never been an English king called Alexander but three medieval Scottish kings ruled as Alexander."

Shame on you for being such a small minded mental midget as to place such a stigma on a newborn child. Before the week is out you'll probably have Zimmerman clambering up a 250ft tree to rescue a stranded cat, or wrestling with some of those Florida alligators bare-handed. Super-duper-George!! Bravely run into a burning building, risking life and limb, but was too afraid to take on a puny barely 17 year old kid and fight fair and square.

I kinda sand bagged Darrell. I used my Savage 10LFLCP .308. Its favorite food is Black Hills 168gr match with the Hornandy A-max bullet. He said in order to be fair I use HIS match ammo (kind of like I cut the cake – he picks which piece), Privi Partisan 168gr match. It was at my club and he drove so I said ok. He he he he, I didn’t tell him I’ve tested the Privi Partisan side by side with Federal, Hornady, Norma etc. and found the Privi Partisan consistently shoots 4 inches low @ 200 meters. After a single fouling shot @ 50, off we went.

I have to admit I was slightly disappointed. I didn’t hit exactly where I wanted; which was center, 1 inch above the eyebrows. It hit between the right eye and the nose. He claimed I missed as he couldn’t see it through his spotting scope so we used a friends 4 wheeler to drive the 928 ft. instead of hoofing it. PAY UP BEEAACH!!

Darrell kind of sand bagged me too. He had the bottle (PatrÒn silver) in his range box the whole time. The weasel made me work for it. :-) HA. A bribe disguised a wager to get us to go shooting. I fell for it too.

Nate Silver’s genius isn’t math. It’s journalism.

"The truth is that 2012 just wasn’t a very hard election to call. The polling data all pointed in the same direction, even if many pundits refused to believe what it told them."

"If you look at Silver’s November 2011 New York Times magazine story, “Is Obama Toast?“, you see a model that’s way too pessimistic on Obama’s chances."

"It concludes, basically, that so long as Mitt Romney is the nominee, “the odds tilt slightly toward Obama joining the list of one-termers.”..."

TheCommander: It doesn't take a "what might have happened guess." If you look at all the data about what was going on in the crash back on Bush the younger's watch, where the economy was heading was obvious to even a blind man. It perfectly mirrored the events of 1929 only on a larger scale.

As for Jt6gR3hM, actually I attended a private school and wore store-bought shoes because both my parents took hard jobs to get their children an education that got them into the best college possible, and gladly earned my way through college to graduate degrees.

But my parents and theirs were part of the first generation working away from the farm and survived the Great Depression with a lot of wounds. One was fortunately to live in a small southern city, the other unfortunate to live in a large northern urban center. Just go back and read your history if you want to see how times were then, you should need no tutoring; and get rid of the gratuitous comments about walking in the snow.

What is so sad is the unwillingness of rigid minds to look carefully at the past. In the end, an Hisopanic and possibly African-American base will dominate American politics. Whether or not the GOP chisels out a 1 vote margin in the senate this next time has little effect on the long view. (By the way, the same pundits said Mr. Romney was a shoe-in, even while the votes were being tallied showing their futility. )

You will not get your tea party legislative package through Congress and the President, no matter how hard you try. And the harder you try, the easier you make the next Presidential house and Presidential election for the Democrats.

The even sadder thing is the unwillingness of the right to compromise on anything in this mindset of all or nothing hatred of the President; thereby getting nothing.

You talk the way many talked in the South after losing the Civil War, but you, as they finally did, will discover you cannot live on your own bile. peace my friend, :-)

Al, The family said they had second thoughts because of threats to them if they said anything. Your ilk are so filled with hate you have to put down anything good Zimmerman does. If you say you aren't filled with Hate, I will know you are nuts. You say you are a Christian so please, clue us in, What kind of christian? Oh, that's right you don't believe anything in the Bible so you don't have a basis for what a Christian is.

inquiring mind: you are correct. I saw where it was going under Bush and now I see where it has gone and is going under Obama. I also see where it is going under Haslam in this state and under Berke in Chattanooga. The question remains: Will YOU keep allowing government to continually justify expansion and intrusion into our lives with THEIR claim of a potential crisis and then keep giving them a free pass on these failures by allowing them to say something like: we averted the crisis and you don't know how bad it could have been if we didn't act.

*The above is not true. It's more perceived threats that might happen than rather actual treats.

I wouldn't want to confuse you, but you ARE confusing all those Christian types who posted derogatory and demeaning comments about an unarmed, innocent, barely 17 year old teen. And then there's your old boy Ted Nugent who continues to spew his racist, UN-cHRISTIAN rants about Martin.

Here's what one juror #B29 has come out to say about Zimmerman and the trial during an interview on God Morning America this morning.

excerpt:

The only minority on the all-female jury that voted to acquit George Zimmerman said today that Zimmerman "got away with murder" for killing Trayvon Martin and feels she owes an apology Martin's parents.

"You can't put the man in jail even though in our hearts we felt he was guilty," said the woman who was identified only as Juror B29 during the trial. "But we had to grab our hearts and put it aside and look at the evidence." She said the jury was following Florida law and the evidence, she said, did not prove murder.

The only part I disagree on is the evidence didn't prove Zimmerman was responsible for Martins death (It did, but under Florida's present laws on self-defense/it shifts the responsibility to the victim of any predator or stalker). How they arrived at the conclusion otherwise I find troubling.

B29 was the only minority on the jury and is Puerto Rican. I'm only stating that fact before some of Martin's haters see her on camera and say she's black. Like Zimmerman is considered white/Hispanic (Latino) there are brown, and black Hispanic/Latino. That's for those who have limited knowledge about other countries outside America, their ethnicities, race and religions.

Ki, have you ever lived in the Keys? latino's of all races live there. I worked along side of them and know how they think and act. American blacks do not like the Hispanic black and vice a versa. Cuban Hispanic don't like Mexican Hispanic. So until you live with these people and work with them you have limited knowledge.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM I HAVE WITH REPUBLICAN LIKE YOU........YOU TRY TO PAINT THE RACES WITH A BROAD BRUSH....YOU ARE SO WRONG

WHAT YOU FAIL TO ADDRESS IS THAT EVERY RACE HAS SEGMENTS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE INSECURE AND DISTRUSTING OF PEOPLE DIFFERENT FROM THEM BECAUSE OF CULTURE,RELIGION,AND THE UNKNOWN....BUT ONCE THEY BECOME INTERACTIVE THE ONLY THING THAT MATTER IS CHARACTER(THIS IS A GOOD PERSON)THATS ALL THAT IMPORTANT

IF YOU ARE IN THE AREA OF CHATTANOOGA THEN YOU HAVE MADE CONTACT WITH BLACK-AMERICAN AND THERES A GREAT CHANCE YOU HAVE WORKED WITH BLACK-AMERICANS..YOU STATED YOU LEARN BY WORKING WITH PEOPLE..YOU SAID YOU KNOW HOW THEY THINK..HA HA HA HA HA..YOU THINK YOU ALSO KNOW BLACK-AMERICANS JUDGING FROM YOUR PASSED POSTING.....AND YOU TRY TO GENERALIZE BLACK-AMERICAN ALSO I'M A BLACK-AMERICAN AND I READ YOUR COMMENT THAT ARE NARROW-MINDED AND NOTHING IS FARTHER FROM THE TRUE HA HA HA HA

YOU DONT HAVE A CLUE!!!!

THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT HAVE A PERSONAL INTEREST TO KEEP PEOPLE DIVIDED AND FIGHTING

IN YOUR GENERALIZATION OF RACES...YOU ARE SO WRONG "SWEET CAKE"
