A gas leak in Dalton, Ga., led to a number of road closures on Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release.
The Whitfield County Fire Deparment, Dalton Police and Fire Departments responded to the leak on Tibbs Road shortly before 4 p.m. Officials initially called for an evacuation but the request has already been canceled, the release says. Dalton Utilities quickly contained the leak by a shutoff valve.
According to the release, the gas main was damaged during landscape work on the property of OTR, Inc. Truck, Trailer and Tire Repair, across the street from Mr. T’s Pizza.
Tibbs Road remains closed between College Drive and Chattanooga Road while Dalton Utilities crews work to repair the damage, the release says. The road is expected to be cleared shortly after 5 p.m.
