Montgomery Biscuits rally, beat Chattanooga Lookouts 5-4 in 10 innings

J.T. Wise battered the ball for the Chattanooga Lookouts on Monday at AT&T Field. But it wasn't enough to beat the Montgomery Biscuits.

After the Biscuits tied the game in the top of the ninth inning to force extras, they jumped on reliever Luis Vasquez in the 10th. A walk, a single and another walk loaded the bases, and Hector Guevara walked to bring in the deciding run in a 5-4 Biscuits win.

The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Lookouts (38-38).

Wise drove in the Lookouts' first three runs, staking them to a 3-2 lead that lasted until the seventh inning. After the Biscuits drew even in the eighth, Angelo Songco's third hit of the night was an RBI bloop single to left field that scored Bobby Coyle from second base, putting Chattanooga up 4-3 heading to the top of the ninth.

Reliever Hector Nelo walked Riccio Torrez to start the ninth and Kevin Kiermaier brought him home with his second triple of the game, tying the game at 4.

The game began inauspiciously for the Lookouts when pitcher Zach Lee gave up a leadoff triple to Kiermaier, who then scored on a fly ball. The Biscuits (42-39) added a run later in the inning and had the bases loaded with one out, but a double play got the Lookouts out of the jam with minimal damage.

Wise got the Lookouts on the scoreboard in the second inning with a solo home run off Biscuits starter Jacob Thompson.

In the third, with two away, Brian Cavazos-Galvez (3-for-5) reached on an infield single and Sean Burroughs singled to put two on for Wise, who again delivered. He drove in both runs for a 3-2 Lookouts lead, though he was thrown out trying to stretch his single into a double.

Lee, meanwhile, settled down after his bumpy start. He gave up four hits in the first inning and allowed just two during the next five innings.

His replacement, Jharel Cotton, ran into trouble right away in the seventh and eventually gave up a Robby Price RBI single that tied the game at 3.

A hit-and-run against reliever Erik Hamren put Chattanooga back on top. After Coyle's infield single with one out in the eighth, Ozzie Martinez hit an easy ground ball to second base, but because Coyle was running ahead of the swing, the Biscuits could get only Martinez at first for the second out.

Songco then hit a go-ahead bloop single to left, sending Coyle around to score easily. But the Lookouts couldn't hold the lead.

Chris Reed (3-6, 3.64 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound tonight for the Lookouts, with Mike Colla (2-0. 3.93) set to go for the Biscuits.
