A chicken truck crashed on Interstate 59 near Valley Head, Ala., this morning.

The truck spilled chickens across the road and most have died.

The Alabama Highway Patrol reported that northbound lanes are blocked.

Paige Guffey said she was in one of the first cars on the scene after the accident took place around 6:20 a.m.

Chicken cages were destroyed and the cab of the truck was on its side, she said. Traffic was held up about 45 minutes until one lane was opened.
