about Clay Bennett...

After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

What, all those shovel-ready projects didn't smooth out the roads?

One way to see the trouble with our President is that he doesn't seem to know the difference between moving things (money, words) around and building things. Stimulus and O'Romneycare move money around, but don't enrich the country. Moving Gaddafi and Mubarak out didn't build Libya and Egypt. Knowledge puffs up, Christian love builds up.

Time to pull your head out of your @ss. I have never said any of those things. I was ready to get Saddam after he gassed the Kurds. Do your homework and you will find that I HAVE said that here. I think that President Bush's greatest legacy has yet to be realized - when Democracy takes root in the Middle East and peace finally becomes a reality. It won't happen in our life time, but I think it will happen. President Bush took responsibility for planting those seeds in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unlike you RWNJ's, I do credit where it is due. I have yet to see ANY of you recognize President Obama for making the decision to remove half of Bin Laden's head and then dumping his body in the sea. I think America and the coalition DID A HELLUVA JOB in Iraq. We did everything we could possibly do to give that nation a start towards democracy. We paid a helluva price, but that is what America does. We left at the right time too. That too sent a message to the world about who we really are. It has been heard loud and clear. The people who are smart enough and work hard enough know how to get around most of Obama's social programs and reparations for slavery. We know how to get our income tax down into the 15% bracket without making less money to spend. We know how to use the interest we pay on consumer goods purchases to make it deductible, legally, on our income tax returns.

Your guy there with the pickup truck, who works payday to payday, is the one you have to worry about. He's not going to be satisfied with the work-arounds, because they're not accessible to him.

People who work, save and invest are able to retire with no reduction in their standard of living. It takes 30-40 years of good behavior and discipline, which is something that most other Americans are unwilling to do.

Both the Democrats and the Republicans in Congress know these things, and they are not going to change the laws to wipe out the loopholes, because THEY also profit from the loopholes.

The monarchies of the middle ages operated by keeping serfs who did all the work, and the serfs relied upon the king for protection. The royals had all the property, power and comfort, and the serfs got by on very little. We are living in exactly the same arrangement today, except that the poorest Americans elected their king, and he's doing his best to keep their support by protecting them and supporting them while they do little for themselves or anyone else.

Oh, and Highway 127? The government didn't build that. The taxpayers funded it, and taxpayers built it. The government just scraped enough off the top of the pile of money to operate itself and pay its employees.

Ike,

As far as I know, I have a perfect public record and have nothing to be ashamed of. I have no arrest record. I have an exemplary service record from my time in the U. S. Army. I was recognized for meritorious service for my tour in Vietnam which I volunteered for, I did not have to go to Vietnam. I even stayed over there an extra 2 months for a total of 1 year and two months. I had the opportunity to go to West Point but turned it down.

I was I was told just last year that my credit score was through the roof (that means it is good).

However, many times when I was a teenager and into my 20’s I could have been arrested for DWI and wrecking cars (my own only). I have never taken illegal drugs not even a puff of marijuana. I had been stopped numerous times by police but by the grace of God I was let go and even allowed to drive away drunk by the police. I have seen God deliver me from a police record in my life. I still marvel at what I got by with.

I was once a front seat passenger in a car driven by a buddy and we hit a telephone pole at 65mph. The car was torn into two pieces, I was thrown out into the woods about 50 feet from impact and suffered some facial injuries (13 days in hospital) but no scares to my pretty face. We were all drunk. NO ARRESTS! I could have had a bad looking record but thanks to the wonderful grace of God, No.

My problem with identifying myself is that Liberals are mean and vindictive and have no respect for other people’s property.

However, if you can get the other Liberals to identify themselves and I can verify, I believe I could go along with your request. I am quite sure they won’t do it for they will only use the information they could obtain to devour each other.

A little more serious than a flat tire

President Obama declared that the United States is still prepared to act militarily to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons despite the decision to pursue a diplomatic deal and not strike Syria over its alleged use of chemical weapons.

Yeah Right!!

“My view is that if you have both a credible threat of force, combined with a rigorous diplomatic effort, that, in fact you can . . . strike a deal,” he said, confirming that he had communicated with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani by letter.

I bet Rouhani is shaking in his boots at the thought of Obama’s threats of force. Considering the thrashing his country has been giving Obama, in Syria the last few years, I’m sure he’s terrified.

The comments come after a number of lawmakers and foreign policy experts on both sides of the aisle have criticized Obama for first making the case to go to war in Syria, then deciding to ask Congress for approval, and then making the case for strikes to a prime-time audience while also announcing that he would first give a Russian diplomatic proposal a chance to work. In response to those criticisms, Obama said he is less interested in style than results.

His new foreign policy slogan “Better Lucky Than Skilled”

Obama plans to pivot back to a focus on the economy this week (for the 20th time) ahead of major fiscal battles in Congress, and he said he could change the direction of the economy — including the upward path of inequality — if Congress would let him.

Asked if a president just couldn’t stop inequality, he responded, “I think the president can stop it.”

A president that can stop the seas from rising should be able to handle a small thing like inequality .. don’t you think so?

Don’t worry ... Obama has this under control

Syria has moved 20 trucks worth of equipment and material used for the manufacturing of chemical weapons into neighboring Iraq, the Lebanese daily Al-Mustaqbal reported on Sunday.

The newspaper reported that the trucks crossed the boundary separating Syria with Iraq over the course of Thursday and Friday.

Border guards did not inspect the contents of the trucks, which raises suspicions that they contained illicit cargo, according to Al-Mustaqbal.

Last week, the head of the Free Syrian Army told CNN that opposition intelligence indicated Assad was moving chemical arms out of the country.

"Today, we have information that the regime began to move chemical materials and chemical weapons to Lebanon and to Iraq," General Salim Idriss told CNN.

"We have told our friends that the regime has begun moving a part of its chemical weapons arsenal to Lebanon and Iraq. We told them do not be fooled," Idris told reporters in Istanbul.

"All of this initiative does not interest us. Russia is a partner with the regime in killing the Syrian people. A crime against humanity has been committed and there is not any mention of accountability."

Nice to meet you to Ikeithlu and thanks jesse,

Of everyone who participates in this forum on a regular basis, Ikeithlu is the ONE person who has been polite to everyone, no matter how badly they have been to her.

She is my hero.

We all could learn a thing or two from her on how to interact with others.

I don't hold any ill will towards a soul in here, but there are a couple of people I simply do not care to discuss a thing with, because their entire involvement in this forum is to stir up crap.

I refuse to be tainted by it any longer.

The attack on Ikeithlu is the last straw, as far as I am concerned.

I'm going to do my level best to get someone on the phone who will put a stop to this crap, once and for all.

If one person is outed, then everyone deserves to be outed.

A month or so ago, when it happened to me, with what I coined the hyena crowd, I pretty much deserved it. I didn't out anyone, because the identity was totally incorrect, but I crossed a line that should not have been crossed.

But Ikeithlu has done nothing to deserve having her name dragged out in the open today.

There is no reason on God's green Earth why we can't discuss the issues, disagree, and move on, without getting personal all the time. I have many personal friends who probably think I am off the wall as some of you do, but we remain friends and that's the way it should be.

Religion and politics divide more people on this planet than anything in existence, and that's not going to change anytime soon.

When one has to go personal, and has nothing left to offer, they lose the argument every single time.

So Joe Pultitzer and conservative, whoever you both are, you are both losers, and I doubt that either one of you will out yourselves like you did Ikeithlu today.

It's funny how certain people view the President. All my die-hard Republican friends believe the President to be the one who has refused to work with Congress.

Most of the country believes otherwise.

Per the recent Syria crisis, I find it rather refreshing that we have a President who has the wisdom, the patience, and the gonads to take a hit on the political front, by allowing other world leaders step up to the plate and resolve a serious issue without violence.

Obama will come out on top, despite the detractors who feel that his taking a second seat in Syria is a mistake.

You see, I don't really understand some of you. You weren't behind him when he wanted to use military force against Syria for their use of chemical weapons, and now that he has backed down from calling for the military to step in, you demean him as someone unable to "man-handle barbarians and bullies."

You can't set aside your prejudices about the President long enough to see the conflicts in your own positions. In your eyes, there is nothing the President can do that would at the very least, be satisfactory to you.

"Die-hard supporters like Clay (and his cry-baby aliases on this forum) are blame-shifters par excellence."

Who's crying? Who is it that seems to be upset every time the President makes a public statement?

It most certainly is not those of us who do approve the President.

There are a couple of people who on a daily basis attack others on a personal level.

My criteria? Unless they are paying as I and others are for access, they are not entitled to be here. And it is far too easy to get around that paywall for 24 hours at a time.

I have one computer that will not allow me to log into the paywall, so I know the trick that some are using.

"I don't think Obama knows his rear from straight up about how to right the economy but the labels and derogatory names add nothing to a comment about his initiatives or lack of initiative."

Fairmon, there is no one man on this planet who knows how to fix the economy, given the state that it was in, and most politicians are hardly economists.

But any man elected as President has a team of people who probably agree or disagree as much as we do in this forum, in what it takes to right a stubborn economy.

This country was in such a state on January 20, 2009, that there was no easy answers or any magic wand that could be waved that would magically transform our economy.

The results have been slow to come, but they have all been positive, for the most part, since the day that Obama waltzed into the Oval Office. If a Republican had been elected, I dare offer that this country would be no better or worse off than we are now.

People give way too much praise and condemnation to a President.

"There should be a way that personal identification is not possible unless someone wants to have their identity revealed."

Sites around the web are doing away with anonymity. You cannot write a comment to the editor on this site and have it published in the paper under an assumed name.

Anonymity creates an aura where bravado, bullying, and a complete lack of accountability sprouts like a weed for some people. That all comes to a screeching halt the second that one realizes they are not anonymous.

I realized that my involvement was totally wrong, that it was very likely that it was a mistaken identity, and I retracted and humbly apologized, both publicly and privately to PT for my involvement in such childish behavior.

Easy was good at arguing, but he always took it too far. He went for the throat, so to speak.

===================================

Your lie of calling me a liar is your constant diversion and immature, even childish.

That being said I am going to give you a short lesson on what a church is in order to save you some future/further embarrassment.

The true church is made up of believers and disciples and Christians, those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Scripture teaches that it is impossible for them to lose their Salvation (membership) for they are owned by this same Jesus Christ.

Those who are not Christians just go to a building called a church and do whatever. A building is not a true church in a Biblical sense.

The loss of church membership you referred to are those who tire of some heathen wearing a robe, lighting candles, repeating vain prayers, preaching “social justice”, lying to sodomites by telling them that they are not sinners and they will go to heaven, calling Jesus a sinner, even denying that Jesus was God in the flesh, telling them if they are good and if they do good works they will go to heaven, telling them the Bible is not the word of God just to name some of their blasphemies, false doctrine and nonsense.

Since it is a false church many tire of the nonsense and leave but tragically many stay.

You as a professing Atheist and “proud heathen” are/were a member of such a false church which you told me about in a previous discussion.

Now you know.

Look the other way, Jt6. No one will think less of you. I don't need your approval or your support. But I don't know for sure.

lkeithlu said...

Really, jesse? That's horrible! Somehow I missed that. It explains easy's departure; until someone mentioned him a few days ago I had not realized he had been gone awhile.

First I want to reiterate that what Conservative is involved in is wrong and should be ostracized. However I beg to disagree with your contention that you were unaware of the previous occurrence due to some absences on your part. You were present and posting at the time so if you are unaware it is because you willfully ignored what was happening.

It definitely puts in context your present pleadings, as the put upon victim, to be somewhat hypocritical. To be sure that doesn’t just apply to you but in fact most all of those that are joining you in this sanctimonious crusade against Conservative. Virtually no one really spoke out about what happened then so their self righteousness is a little too much now. He deserves being called out for what he did but it means hardly anything from those whose ethics seem to be situational.

BTW ... I will not be revealing my personal information so those of you that feel that shows some form of cowardly position you can go pound sand. Also for alprova to be in the vanguard of this activity is hard to believe. Let the attacks begin.

If that's not enough for you, I expect you do better, starting with posting your own personal information. If you can't do that, well, you have no leg to stand on.

I would be willing to bet that you don't read every comment posted here every single day. If that's true, then you can hardly expect others to do so. No ... I don’t think I will do so and I have every right to speak out on this subject as I have consistently posted in defense of those who have been attacked in this manner. You are welcome to propose some rational and logical reason that I should do otherwise.

I would be willing to bet that you don't read every comment posted here every single day. If that's true, then you can hardly expect others to do so.

I make it a point that if I am going to post on a thread I make myself aware of all themes and issues that are being covered and I feel that a poster is remiss and uninformed if they do not do so as well.

I made it clear I have been away for periods of time. But even if I am visiting regularly, I can't always keep up, especially when the topic is one I know little about.

You may want to check the archives as you were posting on those threads and the issue was widely covered and discussed.

TIME publishes four different editions around the world. Besides the one here, there's one for Europe/Middle East/Africa, Asia, and the South Pacific.

Readers outside the United States got the cover with Russia's President and a headline reading "The World According To Vladimir Putin."

Above the headline, the text read, "America’s weak and waffling, Russia’s rich and resurgent–and its leader doesn’t care what anybody thinks of him."

Meanwhile, here in America, readers got the cover with a football player and the headline "It's Time To Pay College Athletes."

I guess the folks at TIME felt it would be too much for Americans to handle their President having his lunch eaten by Russia's President.

On a humorous note, NBC Tonight Show host Jay Leno wasn't afraid to tell people that Friday.

"Hey, can you tell I've lost some weight? I'm on that new Obama diet. Every day I let Vladimir Putin eat my lunch. That's how it works."

Power Line's John Hinderacker observed Sunday:

"Historically, the purpose of the press was to inform people. But the principal purpose of our laughably misnamed mainstream media is to prevent people from learning things that might not be good for them. Or, rather, for the Democratic Party."

Mark Steyn commented at National Review, "The palace guard in the America media are doing a straddle Pravda and Comical Ali never had to attempt — telling the truth to the world while keeping their domestic readership in the dark."

By Margaret Wente:

So, let me get this straight. Some red lines cannot be crossed, and gassing Syrian children is one of them. That’s what Barack Obama told us Tuesday evening. “The images from this massacre are sickening,” he said. “Men, women, children lying in rows, killed by poison gas, others foaming at the mouth, gasping for breath. A father clutching his dead children, imploring them to get up and walk.” The moral imperative is clear, he argued. We cannot let dictators get away with this.

At first, he said Mr. al-Assad had to go. Then he said regime change wasn’t in the cards. He said there was a red line Mr. al-Assad mustn’t cross. Then, when Mr. al-Assad crossed it, he said it wasn’t his red line, it was the world’s – even as it became excruciatingly clear that the world wasn’t about to do a thing about it.

He said Syria poses no threat to America, but also that attacking it would be in the national interest. On his own, he decided to seek Congressional approval – then trapped himself when it turned out Americans had no taste for another foreign (mis)adventure of the kind he had promised to extricate them from.

Mr. Obama’s Middle East policy is in ruins. He looks like he’s way over his head. Now he’s let himself get rolled by the biggest bully on the block. In the immortal words of Mr. Kerry, he looks “unbelievably small.” And that’s not good.
