A shots-fired call went out to Chattanooga police officers about 2 a.m. Friday, but when police investigated, they found nothing.

Hours later, about 8 a.m., neighborhood residents who were walking along Glenwood Drive caught a glimpse of 25-year-old Darius Hinton's lifeless body on the embankment.

He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

Year to date, the city has had at least 31 shootings resulting in death or injury to 32 victims.

Police were still searching for leads for Hinton's killer late Friday.

"At this time, Chattanooga police have no suspect information or leads," said Tim McFarland, public information officer for the Chattanooga Police Department.

Court records show that Hinton had a charge of aggravated assault in September 2012 when he was accused of pointing a silver pistol at a man. The charge was dismissed last fall, according to documents.

No one answered the door at Hinton's last known residence on Friday afternoon.

His death is the fifth shooting since the city held its first "call-in" for the Chattanooga Violence Reduction Initiative. On March 20 city leaders, police and community members told a group of 25 men connected to violence to put their guns down.

Anyone with information about Hinton's shooting is asked to contact Chattanooga police at 698-2525 or Crime Stoppers at 423-698-3333.
