Lookout Mountain

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. If Americans cared a whit about privacy loss, they would be loud and long in their praise of Edward Snowden. They are not even paying attention.

Give 'em large pizzas, cold beer, big screen TVs and then you can take away their privacy rights and more without so much as a whimper. Just don't touch their hand guns. By the time their rights are gone, their weapons will be of little use.

The Lookout Mountain cameras are to keep track of who is sleeping with whom and on which nights. (sarc)

Are privacy rights protected outside the home over protection of the risk you create when you exit your residence? The privacy of personal information that is readily available to the public is a privacy invasion that gets little attention. Where you live, income and marital status etc. etc. can be accessed by anyone with a pc.

I think it is just grand that a community would care about crime enough to invest their own money in those cameras.

We are blessed to live in a community where there is no need for cameras at least not yet.

People drive slow enough to where our children can safely ride their bikes and many of us walk and visit neighbors.

So quite at night that it is sometimes spooky.

The answer is obvious. Before the inhabitants of those neighborhoods take aim at each other, they would aim at the camera first.

Cameras don't stop or prevent crime, if the criminal is aware that it is there. When they are in plain sight and unprotected, they are often taken out first.

Maybe, maybe not. Most likely the loudest complaints wouldn't necessarily come from the people around 4th Ave. more likely it would come from those who come snooping around 4th Ave looking for everything from their daily fixes to their favorite freaks under the cover of anonymity. Just think if some of them were shown live and in living color on the local news doing their thing. That's a big difference from just having their mug shots in a $1 weekly mag.

Really? I don't recall it being a hot issue during any campaign in recent memory.

"Obama is a hypocrite."

You believe that is the case, but can you prove it? What proof do you have and can post that begins to prove that spying has been increased by the President.

CONGRESS is the entity that gave the NSA the powers they have currently, Congress oversees everything they do, and they renewed every single facet of these controversial powers that you object to this past summer.

As a matter of fact, more Republicans voted for the renewal than Democrats. 212 Republicans & 103 Democrats voted for the renewal, while 18 Republicans and 90 Democrats voted against the reauthorization.

Now either what I just typed is a fact or it is not.

Well that’s just stupid! ... If you’re going give the locals a pass why would you want video that would prove otherwise if the perp is a local. Why go to the expense? ... just stop any “interloper” and have a local I.D. them as the perp... case closed.

GWB has the lives of every single man, woman, and child who was killed in the name of tearing up a sovereign nation to perform an elaborate Easter egg hunt for those elusive weapons of mass destruction.

With all the accusations that President Obama is a liar about this and that, all the attention paid to the four who died in Banghazi, all the hooplah over the alleged targeting of Tea-Partiers by the IRS, and the attention paid to privacy violations by the NSA, why is it that all you Republican cheerleaders have not an ounce of concern for those who died to defend a horrendous lie, not to mention who died to avenge an assassination plot of the former President's daddy?

Isn't that what the Iraq war was all about?

You'all spend a great deal of time whining about the lives of four people who willingly put themselves in harms way, but I never seem to witness any outrage over the lives of thousands of Servicemen and Servicewomen, and upwards of a hundred thousand innocent lives taken before their time over lies that were sold to the American people, which you have ignored ever since.

In light of that reality, why would you have me believe that you are truly concerned about the four who died in Benghazi or that you are truly concerned that their deaths could have been prevented, when the lives of all those in Iraq never seem to cross any one of your minds?

It gets very boring to witness an easily exposed double standard that proves who is truly hypocritical.

This is all a throwback to the 1960s, 1970s and prior. If you worked on one mountain, but didn't actually live there, you'd get stopped or your employer would have to put out the word to allow you safe passage. Not kidding.

If your employer needed you to make or pickup a delivery from another mountain like Signal, Raccoon, Dunlap they had to call ahead of time to guarantee you safe passage. There were armed guards who were just as likely to shoot you, and there were police you'd need to escort you once they got the word from your employer. Otherwise, the police would stop you and not allow you entrance. That's if you were lucky enough to not get shot first.**

Republicans will not win seats in the house or senate and will not be in the running for president with their current theme:

o Obamacare bashing without a viable alternative.

o No prochoice

o No gun control

o No new taxes

o Keep your guns without question

o Reduce spending on entitlements

o Confrontation with Iran

o More involvement in the middle east

o More drilling for oil

Take that campaign up against the democrats:

o Soak the wealthy and businesses with fees and taxes.

o Allow easier immigration so they do the hard jobs and pay taxes.

o Here is a list of the free stuff we will maintain and add.

o Easy abortions will continue being available

o We have arranged to borrow and print more money, let the kids not aborted pay for our excesses at some point in the future which is said in a way it doesn't sound so bad.

o Promise to reduce the deficit spending and unemployment while getting businesses to return to the U.S. with high paying jobs for unskilled labor.

The republicans don't have a chance but don't realize it. It is a proven fact that promises do not have to be kept they just have to resonate with enough to get the most votes.

In order for the GOP to win they need to stay out of people's bedrooms and women's bodies, not to mention stop trying to suppress the vote of minorities, college aged students and anyone they think is going to vote Democrat.

"GOP insiders freak out: Could Tea Party blow another election?"

"With the Republican Party being torn apart by its internal civil war, an ideological battle that pits establishment Republicans against the no-compromise Tea Party/Christian Right, party backers are doing their best to suppress the craziness as the 2014 midterms approach. But are they succeeding?

The Chamber of Commerce and an assembly of anonymous plutocratic donors are pumping money into local congressional primaries to prevent Tea Party-endorsed candidates from scoring nominations. The plutocratic wing of the party is terrified of losing control of the House, and of missing its opportunity to win the Senate on the back of evangelical candidates who make factually incorrect remarks about rape or declare masturbation to be a sin.

“There is a broad concern about having blown a significant number of races because the wrong candidates were selected, “said Steven J. Law, president of Karl Rove’s American Crossroads. “We don’t view ourselves as being in the incumbent protection business, but we want to pick the most conservative candidate who can win.”

The establishment wing is discovering that it’s hard to keep the crazy quiet when your party’s voter base consists of neo-confederates, white supremacists, know-nothing libertarians, and evangelical theocrats. Moreover, social conservatives are no wilting wallflowers when it comes to raising campaign money. A recent Politico piece reported that roughly 25 socially conservative groups combined to pull in more than $280 million in 2011 and 2012. As for the abortion issue, it was only mentioned as it related to the now indicted former Governor of Va. because he was so willing to sign into law a bill that would allow the State of Virginis to probe into a woman's body should she choose to have an abortion. As I stated instead of trying to probe into women's bodies he should have been probing into his wife's shopping adventures.

Or are you going to attempt to defend either wars?

Yes, we have an all volunteer military, but I'm quite sure that no one signs up with the intention of dying for their country, despite all the patriotic songs that can be played.

Additionally, most sign up after having been enticed with promises for their futures, should they come out alive on the other end.

When there is no future to ponder, I wonder if we could communicate with them, would they agree that their service to this nation was worth their lives?

Broken promises are not always lies. In the case of that one, he was likely overruled by the Tax Policy Center because it conflicted with the center's mission statement that taxes should be "fair, simple and efficient."

“My father served in World War II”

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/service.asp

"Public Will Have 5 Days To Look At Every Bill That Lands On My Desk"

Yep. He broke that promise. I'm sure that most Americans hold it against him...not.

"No more Illegal Wire Tapping of American Citizens”

The Congress authorized the NSA to do what it does. You need to take it up with your Republican representatives, most of whom voted to do it. President Obama is not the man who called for it.

"Promise to Cut Deficit in Half"

We've covered that issue a hundred times in here. The economy was such that such a campaign promise was not possible.

Can you name any politician who has followed through on every promise uttered. One?

“If you like the healthcare plan you have, you can keep it.”

Only a moron would hold the President accountable for what their private employers or their private insurance companies do. But, as we witness here on a daily basis, morons are quite numerous these days.

"Obama Claims Border Fence ‘Basically Complete’ but It’s Only 5% Finished"

5% is just a wee bit off. God only knows where you dug up that figure. The President was referring to a Department of Homeland Security report that stated that 649 of 652 miles of fencing (99.5 percent) had been completed, which includes 299 miles of vehicle barriers and 350 miles of pedestrian fence.

The Republican dominated Congress in 2006 passed the Secure Fence Act and GWB signed it. In 2007, while Republicans still dominated Congress, those fencing requirements were lightened, authorizing the Border Patrol to have leeway to decide which type of fencing was appropriate in various regions.

"“We got back Every Dime we Used to Rescue the Banks with Interest”"

http://www.politifact.com/new-hampshire/statements/2012/oct/25/barack-obama/barack-obama-says-banks-paid-back-all-federal-bail/

Broken campaign promises are not lies. They are broken promises that for one reason or another, were not able to be fulfilled. I have no doubt that the man had good intentions, but then, I am not one who puts very much faith into campaign promises, until they come to fruition.

You apparently hang on every word, or at least those written on every right-wing website.

People like you don't offer critiques because President Obama has done such a horrible job as President. No, your critiques are because the person who came before him was a dumbass and the whole world knows he was a dumbass. So, in order for someone like you and the others of your ilk make yourselves feel good for voting not once but twice for that dumbass by trying to make President Obama seem as if he is also a dumbass who is incompetant. You and your ilk make up scandals where there are none, you say he lies when says he didn't know something but you jump on the bandwagon when Bush claims he was only relying on INTELLIGENCE that was brought to him by the CIA. Even though the so-called INTELLIGENCE is from faulty sources even the CIA doesn't trust.

You and your ilk then have the audacity to ask for proof of the lies Bush and Cheney have told when there are literally VOLUMES of proof of the lies they told and the actions they took that led the United States into an ill-fated war that cost the lives of over 4000 U.S. soldiers, thousands more maimed for life, thousands of civilians dead in Iraq, served as a recruiting tool for Al Qaeda and last but certainly not least damn near bankrupted this country.

In the end none of your so-called critiques of President Obama mean jack because until and unless he reaches the level of incompetance of Bush and Co you and your ilk are the ones DEFLECTING from the sorry choice you made not once but TWICE.

The only "lies" that seem to hit targets are unfulfilled campaign promises, and before I will bow to anyone who considers his unfulfilled campaign promises ouright lies as they were told, I think it is in order to demand the name of one President who has fulfilled every campaign promise they uttered while running for office.

Does such a man exist?

You usually take the middle road when it comes to this very issue, in that you size up most political candidates as being FOS, but for some reason, you seem to hold our current President to a different standard.

Why is that? What makes his broken promises any different than those of others?

Could it be because he is black?

You conveniently left out the part where Senators on the Intelligence Committees made statements ON THE SENATE FLOOR that GWB and Co. were relating to the American people intelligence details that were blatantly false.

That Sir, is the very definition of a lie. It was not an opinion. GWB, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld will all three bust Hell wide open for the deaths of Americans and innocent lives based on their manufactured lies.

Now that is my sole criticism of President George W. Bush. Outside of that, he was as good or as bad as any other President this nation has ever had, but for those lies, he is no more admirable than a thousand year old cow puck.

Wow !! Progressive Fleabagger Feminist sure do lie quite a bit. Two recent examples of supposedly political super stars. First Elizabeth Warren lying about minority status (American Indian Princess) to get preferential employment treatment. Now we have the practically single issue pro-abortion candidate for governor of Texas, Wendy Davis.

We all know her well documented bio through the services of the MSM. She grew up in a single mother broken home, was married right out of H.S., divorced as a teenager, had to raise her child as a single mom, struggled to work her way through college and law school, entered politics to become a daring state senator fighting for women’s rights, and is now running for governor of Texas. What a great story.

However how much of that is true and how much is B.S. lies. She wasn’t divorced as a teen but was 21 at the time. She only lived in the trailer for a few months until she dumped the mortgage she owed on it, moved in with her mother, and then into an apartment. She remarried and had a second child as her new husband funded her education.

When she went to Harvard law she left her children behind with her husband. He cashed in his 401k and took out a ten year loan to pay for her education and living expenses as she attended law school. Ten years later on almost the same day the educational bills were finally paid she left her husband with custody of her two daughters to him.

She said to him “I think you're right; you'll make a good, nurturing father. While I've been a good mother, it's not a good time for me right now.” Yeah ... she had her career to consider and the girls were just in the way.

She definitely knew what she wanted and wasn’t inhibited in throwing her loved ones under the bus including her children as she had no more use for them. Yes siree ! ... Fleabagger to the core.

That is a question that you should be asking those who are no longer here to opine about it.

I know what you mean .. they’re nothing more than mercenaries ... Right?

TUDUMB, you should really stay out of the predicting business after your last set of predictions regarding Romney's winning the White House. Teabaggers, RWNJ, and wannabe Neocons(like yourself) just knew you had it in the bag. Which only goes to show just how clueless you really are in the great scheme of things.

Just like you "busted a gut" in 2000 when Poppy's picks on the USSC gave Jr. the White House, that was nothing compared to my laughs at people like you, Turdblossom Rove, Dick "the Bookie" Morris, Orangutan Trump and all the rest of the pitiful losers because you see the USSC didn't have to order a stop to the counting of votes in Florida and it didn't have to go until Dec. for a winner to be declared it was all done on that ONE NIGHT IN NOV. 2012 AND EARLIER ON THAT ONE NIGHT IN NOV. 2008. THERE WAS NEVER ANY NEED FOR ANYONE TO INTERVENE BE IT THE COURT OR ANYONE ELSE BECAUSE BARACK OBAMA WAS ELECTED PRESIDENT NOT ONCE BUT TWICE WITHOUT EVER HAVING TO GET A COURT ORDER TO STOP THE COUNTING OF VOTES. That's what made Turdblossom Rove's breakdown on T.V. so memorable. Payback is a bh. He who laughs last, laughs the longest.

Maybe with predictions like yours you should consider taking up the Warren Buffet challenge of filling out the NCAA rackets because you have about as much of a chance in winning that as you do in having your predictions come true. LOL Now where is that poster who would tell us how many days President Obama had left before Romney was going to be moving in. Evidently, she can't count that far. LOL

It was a bit disconcerting, and I remember thinking that if I had a house for sale up there, I'd resent him turning people away with his attitude. On the other hand, he probably knows the residents and their cars, and that's a safety factor. On the other hand, who wants to pay homeowners association fees to fund a guard?

Our subdivision has one way in, and one way out. I wish they had cameras at the entrance. I'd contribute to pay for that.

It is refreshing Palin didn’t abandon her children and con her husband until he was no longer any use to her. Broken promises are not always lies. In the case of that one, he was likely overruled by the Tax Policy Center because it conflicted with the center's mission statement that taxes should be "fair, simple and efficient."

Maybe the devil made him do it?

“My father served in World War II”

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/service.asp Yeah everyone I know refers to their grandfather as their father.

"Public Will Have 5 Days To Look At Every Bill That Lands On My Desk"

Yep. He broke that promise. I'm sure that most Americans hold it against him...not.

A lie none the less.

"No more Illegal Wire Tapping of American Citizens”

The Congress authorized the NSA to do what it does. You need to take it up with your Republican representatives, most of whom voted to do it. President Obama is not the man who called for it.

Exactly like Congress gave the authorization for Bush to militarily attack Iraq ... Right?

"Promise to Cut Deficit in Half"

We've covered that issue a hundred times in here. The economy was such that such a campaign promise was not possible.

Yet also a lie by your standards applied to other presidents ... Right?

“If you like the healthcare plan you have, you can keep it.”

Only a moron would hold the President accountable for what their private employers or their private insurance companies do. But, as we witness here on a daily basis, morons are quite numerous these days.

Like the morons at the Washington Post that determined it to be the lie of the year 2013?

"“We got back Every Dime we Used to Rescue the Banks with Interest”"

http://www.politifact.com/new-hampshire/statements/2012/oct/25/barack-obama/barack-obama-says-banks-paid-back-all-federal-bail/

From your link:

"We got back every dime used to rescue the banks. We made that happen." - Obama

Except for the 400 organizations and the $12 billion not yet paid , you and Obama have it right.

Broken campaign promises are not lies. They are broken promises that for one reason or another, were not able to be fulfilled. I have no doubt that the man had good intentions, but then, I am not one who puts very much faith into campaign promises.

Unlike statists like you I have no use for a government and its operatives lying to me to expand its reach and gain power over my life.

I view them not as promises, but objectives. Politicians do not ofen, if at all, use the words "I promise" when relating their objectives.

"How do you decide who you will vote for if you don't believe anything they promise to do?"

Again, I don't recall very many candidates using the words, "I promise" to describe what they would like to do if elected. Every candidate has a set of goals that they would like to achieve, but not every objective is achievable, for many reasons.

"Do you think Obama's promises resulted in votes for him because people had faith in the promise?"

I can't speak for everyone, but I tend to yawn at most campaign promises or objectives. For instance, I knew full and well that at the time he offered that he would cut the budget in half, that it wasd not going to happen. Why would he offer it? I have no clue.

"Do you think some people supported the AHA because of his promise they could keep what they had and their doctor?"

Again, if one does not personally choose their health care plan and pay the entire cost of their health care insurance, they are in no position to keep anything. It's a shame that some people cannot figure that out for themselves.

"I think he is the worst excuse for president since Jimmy Carter and I know you think he is the greatest we have ever had and that you will defend his incompetence to the end."

I have never described the man as the greatest President this nation has ever had, but he is far from the worst. I tend to defend anyone who is unreasonably targeted with undue criticism.

Hence, I was on Chris Christie's side, until two pictures popped up, proving that he was lying about knowing certain people. Will Christie survive the scandal? He will if he shuts his piehole and let it die a natural death.

And he got it, much to the disappointment and attempts to derail it by every single Republican in Congress. It's got to be a bitch being sent to the back of the bus, after so many years in charge.

"But guess what, he miscalculated his greatness and lost the house when people saw through his messianic veneer."

Be that as it may, the Republicans have sat on their hands for three years and now they have nothing to point to that can be used to run for reelection. It's going to be fun to witness a return of the House back to the Democrats, and the weeping and grinding of teeth by the third of this nation that believes as you do, that Republicans are viewed favorably by most people.

There was never any need for any news organization to recount the votes from Florida in 2008. Most especially in 2012 because Barack Obama won a DECISIVE VICTORY BOTH TIMES. Yet, you talk to Seahawk fans, and they see nothing wrong with a player having intensity. But what do you think Seahawk fans would say if Sherman was wearing a different team's jersey?

And I think your "Your simply don't like my views" is an insult to anyone that reads your posts. I honestly don't know what your views are, so how can I not like them? You label yourself a moderate, yet every "conservative" that posts lately, you give them a "Atta boy" and anyone from the left gets a paraphrased "you're full of crap", with your predictable one-liners. Toes, why should we believe this "Wall Street Advisor"? There's no way in hell that there are that many people unemployed. If so, show me more than hearsay or an opinion piece.

PlainTruth, my analogy makes perfect sense. If a politician commits a snafu and belongs to the same party that receives your vote, the politician gets a bit of a pass and vice versa. And the only attack you receive from me is two parts: A). Your condescending one-liners when someone disagrees with you and the "atta boy" one-liners when a "conservative" posts anything. B). Your constant reminders that you are a moderate, though I have seen little evidence to back that claim. Look at your CNN remark, that is something I would expect from Conservative or Maximus. When you don't have anything to add to the conversation, you resort to insults or strawman arguments (see your comment about me being a racist for proof of that).

Obama's gross lie about healthcare is the worst lie ever told to American citizens. It's personal and changes the course of everyone's lives. He's a jerk, a liar and bully. To say that other presidents lie as well, is as absolutely the dumbest response possible. Obama is a sissy, bitch, pajama boy who is incapable of telling the truth. After being elected twice he's still bitching about race and still blames radio talk show hosts for the fact that he's not more popular. What a pathetic individual.

You and Toes really have fixations on President Obama. Too bad he doesn't know either of you exist. You want to see what a pathetic individual really looks like? Take a look in the nearest mirror.

January 23, 2014 at 2:53 p.m.

Obama is not running in 2016. Hillary Rotten Clinton may or may not run. You libs spend so much time, so much time trying to decide who is best to run against a Democrat. Ridiculous. You're dumb. You don't even seen how little difference there is between the two parties. The GOP in it's current form may say they oppose things just to say it, so it looks like they have some conviction, but eventually they just give Democrats what they want. Both parties like things the way they are. They go to the same parties, play golf together and more. It's all kabuki, nothing more. The news is a soap opera and "journalists" are just government stooges. Obama has done HORRENDOUS things, lawless things, and it's ignored or suppressed. It's a joke. The buck used to stop at the top, now snakes like Obama and Hillary Clinton aren't held accountable for being in charge. Obama is literally the worst man to ever occupy the WH. It has nothing to do with his color, or even with his philosophy, it has to do with his dishonesty, lying, corruption and character.

People comment on what they want to comment on and there is no need for the TFP to id the people who want to comment whether it's on Mr. Bennett's cartoon or some other subject. It's not much to be said about the cameras on Lookout Mtn that hasn't already been said. If the people up there think it makes them safer and they are willing to pay for it then it's not an issue. If someone doesn't live on Lookout MTN and they resent having cameras photograph them then don't go to the Lookout Mtn community.

The editorial cartoons are not changed everyday and some days there are other things that have happened in the country and around the world people want to comment on for whatever reason. Your objections to people going off subject on this forum comes across as censorship rather than free speech.

I view them not as promises, but objectives. Politicians do not ofen, if at all, use the words "I promise" when relating their objectives.

So you have to say “I promise”? Is that the way you get away with saying “this is a one owner of a little old school teacher”? It’s not a promise but only your objective to get some “jingle”?

For instance, I knew full and well that at the time he offered that he would cut the budget in half, that it was not going to happen.

Very strange that a sane person would know that someone is lying to them yet support that person none the less. It must be a Fleabagger type of thing ... Right?

Again, if one does not personally choose their health care plan and pay the entire cost of their health care insurance, they are in no position to keep anything. It's a shame that some people cannot figure that out for themselves.

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: If I could add one point on Target canceling the health insurance for part-time workers. They are spinning it as, we have to do that because otherwise they won't be able to acquire subsidies on the exchanges. And so you have to ask yourself, why is that so? Why aren't the part-time workers allowed a choice? Stay with Target, stay with your doctor, or go on the exchanges and get a subsidy.

So what it tells you is the bill was written deliberately to force employers to kick people off their plans so that would be the only way to get the subsidies. In fact, what it tells you is that none of this is an unintended side effect of the creation of Obamacare. The purpose of Obamacare was to destroy the relationship between the employer and the employee in getting health care, and that's exactly why millions of people are being tossed off and millions more will be as the larger employers start tossing people off later in the year.

GWB remains the only United States President convicted of war crimes by several nations.

”Several Nations” ... Really? ... “Several”?

Try Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia in a privately funded and directed operation by a radical islamist that has a less than sterling civil rights record.

When asked about the difference between the Bush and Obama Administrations, the prosecutor of this one horse operation said “If President Bush was the President of extra-judicial torture then US President Barak Obama is the President of extra judicial killing through drone strikes. Our work has only just begun.”

From Wiki:

The former United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, Param Cumaraswamy, has suggested the tribunal is a private enterprise with no legal basis and questions its legitimacy. The tribunal does not have a UN mandate or recognition, no power to order arrests or impose sentences, and it is unclear that its verdicts have any but symbolic significance.

A statement on the tribunal's website states: "In the event the tribunal convicts any of the accused, the only sanction is that the name of the guilty person will be entered in the Commission’s Register of War Criminals and publicized worldwide."

And you are carrying water for those losers. You do post some silly sh!t.

What kind of tax break do you get by obtaining insurance through your employer? Eventually, I expect the amount of premiums paid by employers to be considered wages. Boy will people howl then!!

If your income is low enough, you absolutely do get an instant tax break when you sign up for Obamacare. Your premiums are discounted according to your income.

"giving Solyndra 1/2 a billion"

An initiative that began when GWB was President, but don't let the facts stand in your way of laying it at the feet of the wrong President.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/nov/17/david-plouffe/solyndra-loan-george-w-bush-david-plouffe/

President Obama exaggerated - (Lied?) when defending his administration’s approval of a $535 million loan guarantee to Solyndra, a now-defunct solar company.

Obama referred to Solyndra’s loan at an Oct. 6 press conference as “a loan guarantee program that predates me.” That’s not accurate. It’s true that the Energy Policy Act of 2005 created a loan guarantee program for clean-energy companies developing “innovative technologies.” But Solyndra’s loan guarantee came under another program created by the president’s 2009 stimulus for companies developing “commercially available technologies.”

The president also overstated past Republican support for the program, saying “all of them in the past have been supportive of this loan guarantee program.” Republicans overwhelmingly opposed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and some of them even voted against the Energy Policy Act of 2005 at a time when Republicans controlled both houses of Congress.

From Politifact:

"The program was created on Bush's watch by a law he signed and promoted. The program grew under the Obama administration, which ultimately awarded Solyndra's loan guarantee under a new section of the law created by the stimulus. The Bush administration, though, promoted the loan guarantee program, and Bush himself touted it on his way out of office. There's also evidence his administration specifically prioritized Solyndra's project."

rick1, your link didn't answer my question.

Alpo, when I am paid by my employer, the cost of what I have to pay for insurance is deducted before income tax is calculated. So my health insurance costs me ~200.00 every two weeks, so that is 5200.00 a year of my earnings that is not taxed. If I choose to get a private plan, I will not receive the same tax savings. Again, why should I be able to pay for my insurance through my employer in pre-tax dollars, but not if I buy a private policy?

From Politifact:

"The program was created on Bush's watch by a law he signed and promoted.

Yes Bush did sign the legislation for the Energy Policy Act of 2005 which created a loan guarantee program for clean-energy companies. That program was covered under section 1703 of Title XVII under that act and was limited to improving technology that was not a commercial technology.

The program grew under the Obama administration, which ultimately awarded Solyndra's loan guarantee under a new section of the law created by the stimulus.

Second 1703 did not grow under the Obama administration. However he did create a section 1705 under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 that was intended for commercially available technologies. Solyndra was funded under this program.

The Bush administration, though, promoted the loan guarantee program, and Bush himself touted it on his way out of office.

Yes he did promote the overall loan program but since section 1705 was not yet in existence he could not have promoted it.

There's also evidence his administration specifically prioritized Solyndra's project."

Solyndra had initially applied under section 1703 and was pushing to have it rushed through as Bush was leaving office. However the Energy Department rightful saw that it was not ready for prime time and put a hold on it. Obama ultimately rode to the rescue with an even sweeter deal for one of his contributors.
