Bowe Bergdahl

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

(Politicus USA) Republicans have been carrying out a swiftboating media operation that is being led by a former Bush administration official that is designed to smear Sgt. Bergdahl in order to create an Obama political scandal. The revelation that Bergdahl was tortured means that Republicans are not only attacking the credibility of a soldier, but they are attacking a soldier who was tortured by the enemy.

Even by the new Obama era standards for conservative hate, this is low. The possibility that Sgt. Bergdahl was tortured confirms the White House’s reasoning for making a deal to bring Bergdahl home. Republicans have painted themselves into a corner with their attacks on Bergdahl, and they are now showing signs of looking for a way out of their latest self-induced political disaster.

A NYT journalist said troops wearing cut off tee shirts and bandanas while digging bunkers and trenches in 100 degree heat indicated an undisciplined squadron. There were no security risk. Obviously the author of the article never served and did not have a clue what a combat unit should look like in that situation.

What has FOX news reported that is not accurate? Is it wrong to suggest allegations be investigated and his side of the story told?

Questions not yet answered:

o Did the president fail to follow the law by failing to inform congress of the POW swap? If so what, if any, are the consequences?

o Was the exchange of 5 high ranking Taliban members in command positions appropriate? Does this give the Taliban more incentive to capture and take Americans hostage?

o Did Bergdahl walk away from his post voluntarily and seek out the Taliban?

o Where did the administration get the information that Bergdahl was in bad health since the report by doctors is that he has no physical ailments and is in good condition?

o What is the basis for implying those speaking out that served with him are not credible?

The fact is a thorough investigation without interference by the administration or congress is needed. The military's ability to do that is excellent if allowed to do so.

The CIA should be spreading information among the Taliban that the 5 released had been turned by the U.S. and agreed to report to the U.S. Taliban plans and strategy. Or, knowing where they are it is possible to execute them one at a time before they can rally the Taliban to make more terrorist attacks on America.

"The Rush to Demonize Sgt. Bergdahl" By THE EDITORIAL BOARD at the NY Times

(NY Times) But the instant the Obama administration actually made that trade, Mr. McCain, as he has so often in the past, switched positions for maximum political advantage. “I would not have made this deal,” he said a few days ago. Suddenly the prisoner exchange is “troubling” and “poses a great threat” to service members. Hearings must be held, he said, and sharp questions asked.

This hypocrisy now pervades the Republican Party and the conservative movement, and has even infected several fearful Democrats. When they could use Sergeant Bergdahl’s captivity as a cudgel against the administration, they eagerly did so, loudly and in great numbers. And the moment they could use his release to make President Obama look weak on terrorism or simply incompetent, they reversed direction without a moment’s hesitation to jump aboard the new bandwagon.

Wallyworld...who is the former Bush official leading putting out false information to create a scandal?

What is the basis for concluding he was tortured since there are no health problems or signs of abuse in the initial doctors examinations and report? His mental state had not been commented on. He may be mentally unstable and crazier than hell.

A partner in the firm assisting the former military members speaking out in handling all the reactions is a democrat. The swift boating label is not appropriate or accurate. They all support an investigation and think court martial, which simply means investigated and handled by the military, should happen. Obviously they are willing to be questioned and testify if it comes to that.

@fairmon: Asking a question with an implied answer, as FOX News is doing, is a case of 'creating a controversy' where none exists - and a popular method of Trial by Media. It's a common tactic used by such deep thinkers as Glenn Beck, who may or may not have in fact murdered a young girl in the past. Furthermore, no matter what the answer is, the accusation - and make no mistake, it /is/ an accusation - will be repeated over and over, legitimizing the question. I might as well ask you, 'Have you stopped beating your wife yet?'

fairmon, it's sad that republicans don't have access to 'real' news like democrats do. “A former Bush administration official who was hired, then resigned, as Mitt Romney’s foreign policy spokesman played a key role in publicizing critics of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the released prisoner of war. The involvement of **Richard Grenell, who once served as a key aide in the Bush-era U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton and later worked for Romney’s 2012 campaign, comes as the Bergdahl release has turned into an increasingly vicious partisan issue.” goldmine: conservatives apparently forgetting their adamant support for bringing captured Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl home at any cost. These conservatives tweeted for years about Bergdahl, urging leaders to leave no man behind. But when President Barack Obama's administration succeeded in doing just that, their messages about the soldier took quite a different turn.

No, Congress was first notified in Dec 2013. Besides, the Constitution would override any law that the president signed. Besides, Article 2 of the Constitution would pretty much legally uphold the swap.

"o Was the exchange of 5 high ranking Taliban members in command positions appropriate? Does this give the Taliban more incentive to capture and take Americans hostage?"

In Conservative pundits' eyes, No. History suggests otherwise. The second sentence can be answered with a No, as well. Iran didn't start seizing more hostages after the arms trade back in the 80's. Now, I am not saying that the Taliban won't ever take US hostages, but I don't think you can definitively say that the probability is higher now.

"o Did Bergdahl walk away from his post voluntarily and seek out the Taliban?"

That has yet to be determined.

"o Where did the administration get the information that Bergdahl was in bad health since the report by doctors is that he has no physical ailments and is in good condition?"

Informants. Where is this "report by doctors" that says he is in "good condition"? I haven't seen it.

"o What is the basis for implying those speaking out that served with him are not credible?"

I'm not saying it is, but what makes it infallible?

We have SOS, Kerry, who thinks the released terrorists will be no threat, yet one of terrorists basically said he's going to get back right at it. So, are we supposed just take Kerry's word for it because he's John Kerry? Who should I believe? Why should you libs' word, and Bergdahl's words, carry more weight than the other soldiers in the platoon who didn't desert, and who were right there? Why is necessary to smear them.

As I said before, even a child won't chew gum at a solemn event, like a funeral. It's just not done. It shows disrespect. His selfies at the Mandela Memorial was just as bad. Even his wife, in a photo I saw, looked disgusted with it.

This guy is a rogue POTUS. We have illegal aliens being bussed and flown around, dumped in various parts of the southwest, and we're doing absolutely nothing to stop them from coming in. Obatgauano wants 1.4 billion from Congress to feed and house them, and more.

The primary function of the POTUS is protect this country, uphold the law and the Constitution. He's failed at all of that. He lets 5 America hating terrorists to kill again, in their own words, he lays out a welcome mat to illegal aliens so he gain politically from them, and picks and chooses what laws to enforce.

And we're not supposed to ask any questions, or criticize?

Conservative...One thing that I have never understood is why Christianity has to be sold with the threat of hell and the promise of a reward (heaven). Isn't it just the right way to live without any reward? Isn't the fact that you are afraid of hell or want to go to heaven and it influences your decision by perverting the motivation to be religious? Seems kind of selfish to me. Selfishness is a sin, so isn't wanting to got to heaven or fear of going to hell and it changes your behavior actually keeping you out of heaven?

I just can't believe that God is so childish that if you live a good, moral life that he would send you to hell forever for the just the fact that you don't worship him. If you sent your kids to hell just because they didn't believe everything you tell them no matter their conduct...would that be right?

If you are right, he is not worth worshiping.

I think that Jesus' conduct on the cross when the thief on one side said " get down from the cross if you are the son of God." tells the whole story. Before anyone said anything Jesus didn't say, "hey guys, if you believe in me I will give you a reward and if you don't you will go to hell."

The second thief said, " hey don't bother him, he is the son of God by his actions and I believe." (paraphrasing) He didn't want or expect anything. Then Jesus said that he would see him in heaven. Why?..his intent was pure, not coerced because of the threat of hell, not a reward promised of heaven. The second thief just did the right thing, expecting nothing.

Why don't you just say, it is the right thing to do, and leave it at that?

You have ask more why questions than I could answer in hours, maybe even days.

The answers to your questions are in the Bible, the word of God.

The God of the Bible is creator of heaven and earth and so to put it simply, He is the boss. You best fear Him just as your children best fear you because you are their boss.

The Bible, the word of God, is the revelation of Him and the revelation of His will and requirements for all mankind.

You capitalize the word of God but your beliefs about Him are not what He has revealed about Himself in His revelation to mankind.

If I knew you and I met someone who claim to know you also but his description of you and his characterization of you was different than the Timbo I know then we are obviously not talking about the same Timbo.

Likewise, your beliefs about the character, will, requirements of the capitalized God you referred to are not the God of the Bible.

You have a different God, a philosophical god of your own making.

Most of my time arguing with the likes of inquiringmind and alprova is spent defending the faith. These two, and others spread heresies and doctrines in opposition to the Christian faith.

===============

Yes, I can read what Paul said, but you don't understand what Paul said because you believe you are going to heaven because you believe you are a good person and you have done something to earn Salvation.

Now, read what Paul through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote regarding your standing before God:

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

"For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO PERFORM THEM." Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, "THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH." However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, "HE WHO PRACTICES THEM SHALL LIVE BY THEM." Galations" 3:10-12

You have never kept the law, you can't keep the law, you are under the curse.

"nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified." Galations 2:16

No one has ever been nor will ever justified by keeping the law and doing good works and you are not the exception.

"because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin" Romans 3:20

con-man at least read what I write and see all I did was quote Paul directly.

And by the way, there is considerable debate as to the authorship of Ephesians.

If you can figure out a way to rewrite Romans with authority to say what you want it to say rather than what Paul wants it to say, have at it. In your illuminating description of Rom 1,2 you failed to read the part where Paul lists a number of sins and then says if you condemn the people who are doing those sins you condemn yourself.

And finally, to repeat what I said at 5:53PM in order to keep you honest in your allegations, only God knows where I'm heading and just like you, I'll have to wait to know for sure.

peace be with you.

On another note, it looks like the Reds are eating their dead again in VA. Guess we will have another Blue patriot in Congress.

Actually it is unlikely a Blue patriot will win that district.

There are no "blue" patriots as long as they go along with BO, who is an anti-American. The dems should be red given their agenda.

Good to see a regular citizen win over a politician. We need more of that. Congratulations to the Tea Party movement. The hell with the two monster that's destroying this country.

What's happening now on our border, in the southwest, is a disaster and our POTUS, is doing nothing about it. He should be impeached for not enforcing our law, and for endangering citizens. Holder as well.

that should've been two headed monster, dems/GOP. Both parties are doing nothing to stop the invasion of our country on our southern border. Instead they're thinking about all the new votes they're going to get by giving the invaders anything they want. Impeach BO.

You know Fister, you're right about all of the illegal aliens. I think Obama should just do what Reagan did, grant them all amnesty. "Impeach BO"? What's the charge? It's just the dangling carrot that gets all of you Republicans fired up to make sure you will all show up to vote.

Hey Timbo, heard Cantor is thinking of a write-in campaign. He thinks the voters need to rethink things after supporting a candidate in the primary. Sound familiar?

And I love how Fister is constantly bashing the GOP, yet he'll go cast a GOP exclusive ballot come election day. Way to stick to your guns!!!

I will be voting GOP in August. Weston Wamp will be getting my vote.
