Harris English looking for St. Jude practice caddie

It already has been reported that former Baylor School state champion Harris English is donating $250 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for every birdie he makes from the Masters to defending his championship in Memphis on June 5-8. The week of the St. Jude Classic, English will double the amount to $500 per birdie and $1,000 per eagle.

And that's not all. English announced via Twitter that he also is auctioning off the opportunity to caddie for him during the Tuesday practice round on June 3. Call 1-888-625-4988 for more information.

Women's Open bids

Another former Baylor state champ, Brooke Pancake, made her professional debut in the 2012 U.S. Women's Open. She'll attempt to qualify for the national championship again Monday at Dunwoody Country Club just outside of Atlanta.

Other area participants in the 36-hole event include recent UTC graduate Jordan Britt, Mocs teammates Agathe Sauzon and Emily McLennan, former Walker Valley golfer Avery George, Baylor senior Blakesly Warren and Scottsboro, Ala., resident Logan Chaney.

Zac McCurdy wins state

Fort Payne High School golfer Zac McCurdy won the Alabama Class 5-A championship this week with a 1-under-par 143 at the Capitol Hill Legislator Course in Prattville. He shot 72 in the first round and a 71 on Tuesday. Teammate Cole Skaggs tied for second at 147.

Area aces

James Leeth made the ninth hole-in-one of his life during a low-ball tournament on May 6 at Lupton City Golf Course. He aced No. 4 from 162 yards with an 8-iron. Jackie Mullins, Bobby McKeel, Grady Elsea and Tom Moss were witnesses.

Ringgold High School golfer Ryann McCuistion scored her first hole-in-one Sunday during an All-American Junior Golf Tournament at the River Island Club in Kodak, Tenn. She shot a 79 with the ace in her final round and placed fourth in her division with a two-day 175.

Signal entries closing

Signal Mountain head professional Paul Helle said he will close entires at the end of business today for the Signal Mountain Invitational, which begins Friday. Applications are available at the club and through www.IfYouLikeGolf.com with a credit card.

CDGA four-ball nears

The Chattanooga District Golf Association four-ball match-play tournament begins Monday. Entries can be done at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com.
