The man found dead in a ditch this morning on Blackford Street was an associate minister at a local church, his wife said.

Sandra Johnson said she was with police when her husband's body was found. Police have only identified the victim as a black man and have not released a name, but Johnson said her husband's name is Kenneth Johnson.

"He was my best friend," she said.

Kenneth Johnson worked as an associate minister at Mount Canaan Baptist Church, assistant pastor Ternae Jordan Jr. said.

"Kenneth was a wonderful Christian man who was always willing to help someone," he said. "It's a shock to all of us."

Police have not yet determined how Kenneth Johnson died or whether foul play was involved.

Police found his body in a ditch at 2200 Blackford Street around 7 a.m. this morning after responding to a call of a suspicious vehicle and noticing clothing in the ditch.

A body found in the city yesterday near Enterprise South belonged to an 85-year-old man who suffered from Alzheimer's. No foul play is suspected in that case.

This is a developing story. Stay with the Times Free Press for more details.
