Sheriff: After wrecking stolen vehicle, man breaks into church and sets it on fire

A 20-year-old Lafayette, Ga., man wrecked a stolen vehicle and then broke into a church and set it on fire in multiple places, the Walker County Sheriff's Office said.

Brandon Dale Harris was arrested around 2:45 a.m. today, according to a news release.

The crash happened near Round Pond Road and Old Ringgold Road in LaFayette.

Authorities say Sunnyside Baptist Church, which is located on Round Pond Road, sustained considerable fire, smoke and water damage.

According to Sheriff Steve Wilson, Harris is a suspect in other thefts that occurred Thursday night and Friday morning.

Harris has been charged with arson to a place of worship, motor vehicle theft, burglary 2nd degree and probation violation, the release stated.
