TBI Special Agents began investigating skeletal remains on Pugh Cemetery Road in Cumberland County on Sept. 27, and that investigation led them to Matthew Owens, 39, of Crossville, according to a news release.

The remains were identified as Nina Karen Owens, a 47-year-old Crossville woman who had been reported missing by her sister a month earlier. She was the wife of Matthew Owens. The release said that TBI agents, in conjunction with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department, "developed information which led to her husband" during the investigation.

Owens was arrested this morning at a home in Crossville on a charge of first degree murder. He's been booked into the Cumberland County Jail, and he's currently being held there on a $500,000 bond.
