Met's 'Macbeth' debuts on the big screen - Oct. 11, 15

The ninth season of the Metropolitan Opera's Live in HD will open Saturday, Oct. 11, with Verdi's Shakespearean drama "Macbeth," featuring Anna Netrebko as Lady Macbeth and Željko Lucic in the title role.

The award-winning series of live transmissions reaches more than 3 million viewers in 2,000 movie theaters in 69 countries.

Locally, the transmission can be seen at 12:55 p.m. at the Carmike East Ridge 18, 5080 South Terrace, and Regal Hamilton Place 8, 2000 Hamilton Place Blvd., with an encore at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The 2014-15 HD season continues with nine more live transmissions, including Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro," Bizet's "Carmen" and Rossini's "Il Barbiere di Siviglia."
