A North Carolina traveling salesman was arrested early Monday morning in Alcoa and charged with impersonating a doctor after he allegedly tried to examine a woman who was interviewing to be his personal assistant, authorities said.

Robert McCollum, 60, of Davidson, N.C., was charged with two counts of impersonation of a licensed professional - a felony - and was free on $50,000 bond pending a Nov. 3 hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court, authorities said.

Alcoa Police Department Detective Kris Sanders said McCollum was running an ad on craigslist in which he posed as a family physician who was seeking a personal assistant when he moved his practice from North Carolina to Knoxville, the detective said.
