Tennessee couldn't produce a third straight day with four home runs, but 11 players collected hits for the home team Sunday afternoon as the No. 8 Volunteers completed a three-game sweep of Bowling Green with a 16-6 rout that was called after seven innings.

The Vols and Falcons never played a nine-inning game during their weekend series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, with Tennessee winning the three contests by a combined score of 39-8.

"This one was fortunate and unfortunate," Vols coach Tony Vitello said during a news conference. "There were a lot of highs and a lot of lows. The scorecard looks nice, and I don't know what our fans' assessment would be. I guess it was a good game because they saw some offense, but there were too many mistakes in there.

"We just had enough talent to wash over it."

Tennessee scored nine combined runs in the first two innings to win its 10th consecutive game and improve to 11-1 this season. With the Vols and Falcons (2-7) only playing 22 of a possible 27 innings over the weekend — Tennessee won the opener 11-1 in eight innings and the second game 12-1 in seven — Vitello used eight pitchers in Sunday's finale.

The Vols scored four two-out runs in the first inning, with Billy Amick singling to center field, Kavares Tears singling to right and Cannon Peebles doubling to right-center to score Amick. Tears came home on a wild pitch, and Tennessee quickly doubled its 2-0 advantage with Dylan Dreiling's RBI double to right and Dalton Bargo's RBI single to right.

Tennessee opened the second inning with Christian Moore drawing a walk and Blake Burke following with an RBI double to left-center. The Vols would score five second-inning runs, with Dreiling providing the big blast with a three-run home run to right.

Dreiling accounted for Tennessee's lone homer of the game.

The Vols have a pair of midweek games ahead, hosting Kansas State on Tuesday and Southern Indiana on Wednesday, with each of those scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch. Tennessee will welcome Illinois on Friday for a three-game series.

"We've got five games this week," Vitello said, "so we've got five opportunities to make sure we hustle and that you're competing when you get your chance."
