Children can try their skill at handling chopsticks, taste Chinese dumplings and learn Chinese dances when a Chinese New Year celebration is held on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 24, at the Creative Discovery Museum.

The celebration of Year of the Dog will feature Chien Hong Lion Dance Troupe of Atlanta, which will present two lion dance performances in the museum atrium at 1 and 3 p.m.

Chien Hong School's Wu Guan martial arts group will present a martial-arts demonstration at 2 p.m. The school's Chinese martial arts performing group is comprised of expert martial artists.

Children can participate in activities such as constructing masks and puppets, learning how to use chopsticks and sampling a Chinese dumpling. Chattanooga-area folk dancers will perform traditional Chinese dances during the event.

"Creative Discovery Museum's Chinese New Year event is a special time for families to celebrate a cultural tradition while engaging in a rich and colorful arts experience," says Liza Blair, CDM arts manager.

All activities and materials are included with museum admission.
