Dalton coin show focuses on Civil War

The Georgia Numismatic Association will offer a nod to the historic significance of this week in April with a presentation on Civil War paper money during the GNA Coin Show in Dalton.

Richard Jozefiak of the Society of Paper Money Collectors will speak at 2 p.m. today on "The Battle of Paper Money in Civil War Alabama." Jozefiak is the American Numismatic Association regional district representative for Alabama and an avid historical researcher and collector, according to the SPMC.

Other programs during the weekend at the Northwest Georgia Trade & Convention Center will focus on Indian cents. A Young Numismatics program will explore the basics of identification for beginning collectors.

More than 125 vendors will set up shop through Sunday to buy, sell and trade. The majority hail from 14 Southern states, with others coming from as far away as Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Show hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today and Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. The trade center is at 2211 Dug Gap Battle Road off I-75 Exit 333 (phone: 706-272-7676).
