Heritage High School is hosting its first ever spring plant sale. The greenhouse opened one year ago and is already blooming with flowers, vegetables and herbs.

The plant sale runs May 2-4 after school from 3-5:30 p.m. in the greenhouse located behind the school.

"Our basic agriculture class has worked hard in the greenhouse," said Heritage High School agriculture teacher and Future Farmers of America student advisor Brandon Ray. "We have a lot of plants ready for the sale. We will sell summer annuals, vegetables and ferns, some perennials and hanging baskets with flowers. We've got cucumbers, squash, eggplant, peppers, herbs and tomato plants."

Ray said he is certain that the red and pink geraniums and the Boston ferns will be the top-sellers.

Plants range from $1.50 to $10 for a tray of several vegetable plants.

"We will do a create-your-own basket," said Ray. "They can select plants to make their own hanging basket. We have pots to use and coconut-shell hanging baskets."

He said the greenhouse plants are spot-watered daily on warm days and watered every other day on cold days.

"The money raised from the plant sale will purchase materials for the greenhouse and pay for student FFA trips," said Ray. "We hope to have a good turnout for the plant sale."
