John Hess

John W. Hess passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at his home in East Ridge after a long battle with cancer.He fought a good fight, he finished his course; he kept the faith. John was a true disciple of God and was a longtime member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.John was born Oct. 27, 1932 in Jackson County, Ala., to Clyde and Mamie Hess. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue Venable.John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty; his daughter, Joyce (Phillip) Crihfield, of Halls, Tenn.; a son, John R. (Tamara) Hess, of Signal Mountain; and granddaughter, Madison Hess.John also precedes brothers Arthur (Carolyn) Hess, of Woodville, Ala., Cody (Ruby) Hess, of Scottsboro, Ala., and Kenneth Hess, of Hollywood, Ala.; sister, Berith Hicks, of Rosalie, Ala.; a special sister-in-law, Nancy Johnson, of Wilmington, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.John is a Korean War veteran. He is a member of American Legion Post 95 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Chapter 945. He was in sales management in the automotive parts business for 50 years. He loved fishing and UT football.The family extends special thanks to the Cancer Center at Memorial Hospital, Hospice of Chattanooga (special nurse Sarah), and to his many beloved friends.A memorial service to celebrate Johns life will be at 2 p.m. held on Sunday, Aug. 4, at Community Baptist Church, East Ridge.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.
