Winifred Troupe

Winifred "Winnie" Smith Troupe passed away on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, in a local healthcare facility.Winnie was born to the union of Dave and Cherry Ann Smith on Aug. 23, 1921 in Monroe, Ga. She accepted Christ at an early age at Second Baptist Church in Chattanooga.Winnie met Robert Acklin and to that union one daughter was born, She later moved to Detroit and graduated from Madam C J Walker beauty school. She had a passion for doing hair and owned two beauty shops.Winnie loved traveling, reading, journaling, arts and crafts. She was an avid bowler and was a member of Women International Bowling Congress. She was a photographer for the Idlewild club of Detroit. She was a past member of Emma L Court Heroins of Jericho Mt. Olive grand Lodge.She later met and married Alvin Troupe in 1986 who preceded her in death.After a lengthy illness Winnie moved back to Chattanooga where her daughter, Regina became her caregiver.She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Winifred Elaine Austin, of Detroit and Regina Acklin, of Chattanooga; sons, Alphonso Dillard of Indiana and Ronald Morris Dillard of Tennessee; sister: Marjorie Morrison of Chicago; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 31, 2011, at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services Franklin-Strickland Pinkard Bryan Smith Funeral Directors, 1724 McCallie Ave.Funeral services will held in Detroit at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, in the Pure Word Missionary Baptist Church with a visitation being held on Friday at Cole Home for Funeral in Detroit.Arrangements have been entrusted to Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services Franklin-Strickland Pinkard Bryan Smith Funeral Directors, 1724 McCallie Ave., 423-265-4414.
