Lacie Leatherwood

Lacie Norma Poteet Leatherwood, 91, of Hixson, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at NHC nursing facility in Dunlap.She was born on Jan. 24, 1921 in Copperhill, Tenn., to Rual Rice and Sarah Jane Poteet. One of eight children, she grew up in the surrounding area, and as a young woman moved to Chattanooga where she met and married the love of her life, Curtis Leatherwood on April 17, 1948. As a devoted wife and mother she created a joyful and loving home for her children, their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family where she daily demonstrated her warm and giving spirit. She was a devout Christian and a member of New Salem Baptist Church. Throughout her life she enjoyed music and blessed others with her musical talents. For a number of years she sang with the Wright Trio and performed in many churches in the Tri-state area and until recently continued to sing with the ladies trio at New Salem Baptist Church.She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; Stephen; and her siblings, Rosa Poteet, Gena Leatherwood, Ethel Poteet, Woodrow Poteet, Ebb Poteet, Bessie Mantooth and Walter Poteet.Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 64 years, Curtis Leatherwood; daughter, Kathy (Sam) Owen, of Signal Mountain; two sons, David (Debbie) Leatherwood, of Hixson and Jeff (Janice) Leatherwood, of Signal Mountain; nine grandchildren, Becky Randolph, Edward Owen, Stephen Owen, Shawn (Heather) Leatherwood, Brent (Meredith) Leatherwood, Laura Leatherwood, Wade Leatherwood, Claire Leatherwood, Crystal Moats and Shannon (Andrea) Leatherwood; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.The family would like to express our deep appreciation for the wonderful care and support provided by Hospice of Chattanooga, the excellent staff at NHC nursing facility who have become dear friends and the members of New Salem Baptist Church.Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ted Painter and Rev. Allen Rogers officiating.Burial will follow at National Cemetery with Edward Owen, Brent Leatherwood, Wade Leatherwood, Shawn Leatherwood, Sammy Benefield and Joey Grayson serving as pallbearers. The Harvesters Sunday School Class and Stephen Owen will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of New Salem Baptist Church, 9806 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy-Daisy, TN 37379.
