William Barnes

William R. Barnes, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at a local healthcare facility.He was born Jan. 30, 1927 the son of the late Clifton and Thelma Roberson Barnes. He attended Dupont High School prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Following the war, he graduated from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute in 1951. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in Korea. He also graduated from the Nashville YMCA Night Law School while beginning his 37 year career with State Farm Insurance. Bill was a longtime member of Concord Baptist Church and greatly missed the fellowship with his church friends in recent years.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Betty Jo Tidwell Barnes and daughter, Cindy Barnes. Survivors include his daughters, Angela (Richard) Pierce and Suzanne (Andy) Smith; grandchildren, Allie Pierce, Abbie Smith and Wylder May; great-granddaughter Bella Hardison; and sister, Betty (Ray) Stewart.Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson, with Rev.
