Harry Shamhart

Harry Shamhart, 96, Lookout Mountain, Tenn., died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in a local hospital.Born Jan. 8, 1917, Mr. Shamhart died on his birthday. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech. During the war years he worked on the Manhatten Project in Oak Ridge. After the war, he was employed by Cutter Laboratories in Chattanooga. He built and was then the manager of Cutter Lab Plant in Ogden, Utah, later returning to Chattanooga as plant manager. Mr. Shamhart was a member of Rockwood Christian Church where his grandfather had been the minister of The Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal on Lookout Mountain. He was a member of the Fairyland Club.Mr. Shamhart was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer and Min Acuff Shamhart and a brother, Jack, who died in the White's Creek Boy Scott flood in Roane County.He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Christine Howard Shamhart.Survivors are his daughter, Martha (James) Ensign; granddaughter, Christie (Lee) Wright; and great-grandson, Jack Wright.Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday in the library of The Good Shepherd Church on Lookout Mountain, Tenn.. A graveside service will be held at Rockwood Cemetery at 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev.
