Frank Carlock

ROCK SPRING Frank Dwight "Pete" Carlock, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 14, 2013 at his residence with his wife by his side. He was born in Rock Spring on Feb. 9, 1925 to the late James Fred and Bessie Carlock and he attended the Rock Spring Schools. At the age of 18, Frank joined the United States Navy serving during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam, retiring in 1964. While in the Navy he was a Submarine Sailor and he was also a Chief Electrician. He continued his service to his country doing contract work for the Air Force working for Philco/Ford in the Pimil Lab at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, AK. Frank lived outside of Anchorage in Eagle River, AK for 36 years before moving back to Rock Spring in 2001 residing a mile from where he was born. Frank was a member of the Fort Oglethorpe VFW and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Elks Club while residing in Alaska. Frank loved life and he also enjoyed being around people. His humor and story-telling always put a smile on everyone's face. He also enjoyed working in his yard, piddling around the house, and his daily trips for lottery tickets. He recently enjoyed a visit from his only son from Washington and was able to spend some quality time with him.Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Carlock; brother and sisters, Juanita Ukena, Bill Carlock, and Mary Doyle.Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Mary Jane Carlock; son, Frank D. Carlock, Jr. of Big Bend, Wash.; brothers and sisters, J.D. (Nina) Carlock, of Celina, TX, Catherine "Katie" Carlock, of Villanow, Ga., Jack (Virginia) Carlock, of Fredericksburg, MD, Alice Hatch, of Ringgold, Ga., and Jessie Crawford of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.; grandchildren, Frank James Carlock, Laura Kimberly Carlock and Melysa Carlock; great granddaughter, Fheilynne Carlock; and several nieces and nephews.Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.The family would like to extend a special thank you to SolAmore/Life Choice Hospice of Lafayette and also a very special thank you to special friends and family for their love and tremendous support during this time.Contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.Private services will be held at a later date.Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
