Greeley AshworthLAFAYETTE Horace Greeley Ashworth, 85, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at his home. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a faithful Christian servant. Mr. Ashworth was born Feb. 1, 1928 to the late Horace Grady and May Holman Ashworth. Mr. Ashworth was a lifelong member of Peavine Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and teaching Sunday School for over forty years. He was a United States Army Veteran and was employed by Peerless Woolen Mills from 1944 to 1962 and Corley Manufacturing from 1962 until his retirement in 1990.He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Nannie Kay Ashworth and survived by children, Amy (Terry) Cain, Becky (Jim) Agnew, Gayla Bettis; and grandchildren, Dr. Laura Beth Gandy, Jonathan Bettis, Joshua Bettis, Kimberly Noelle Walker and Timothy Cain.He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jo-Ann Hurt Ashworth; and children, Mike McGuire, Don (Kathryn) McGuire, Joy (Rodney) Love; and grandchildren, Marty McGuire, Laura Fox, Nicholas Herring, Mindy McGuire, Michelle Wright and Hannah Wright.Mr. Ashworth was preceded in death by sisters, Margie Nell Ashworth and Agnes Garner; and brother Franklin Ashworth; and is survived by brother, A. C. Ashworth; and sister, Sarah Luttrell.A celebration of life service will be held 7 PM, Tuesday June 18, at Peavine Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Anthony and Rev. Denny Patrick officiating. The body will lie in state for 1 hour prior to the service. Interment services at Peavine Cemetery will be private.
