Lamar Gilbert

Lamar R. Gilbert, 79, departed this life on Friday, May 24, 2013. He was born in Chattanooga, on Dec. 25, 1933 to the late James and Edithe Gilbert.He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ethel McKissic, Ophelia Johnson and Elvea Thurman.He is survived by his wife, Ida M. Gilbert; sons, Ronald (Carol) Gilbert, Russell (Terri) Gilbert, Ricardo Gilbert, Richard (Juaquia) Gilbert; daughter, Edithe J. Gilbert; grandchildren, Nicole, Jay, T-ran, Skieree, Gabrielle, Whitney, Jennifer and Jillian; nephews, Gerald (Bonnie) McKissic, Harry M. Johnson; niece, Melvenor (Vincent) Griggs; 11 great-grandchildren and a multitude of other relatives and friends.Funeral services for Lamar Gilbert will be held at noon on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at New City Fellowship, 2424 E. Third St., Chattanooga, TN 37404.The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.Interment in Shepherd Community Cemetery.The body will lie in state today after noon at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
