Ruby Dykes

Ruby Rae Mullenix Dykes, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013. Mrs. Dykes was 90 years old.She was born in Woodbury, Tenn., the daughter of the late James Bruce Mullenix and Effie Hoover Mullenix. Ruby was also preceded in death by her late husband of 42 years, John Henry Dykes; brother, James Burton Mullenix Sr.; and sister, Willie Blanche Mullenix. she was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Chattanooga.Ruby was an employee of Hamilton National Bank and First Tennessee Bank totaling 44 years, retiring from the trust department in 1985. She volunteered for many years at Memorial Hospital as a gray lady. she was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.Ruby is survived by her two nephews, James Burton Mullenix Jr. and Walter Bruce Mullenix; stepdaughter, Annette Beach (Ron), of Rogersville, Tenn.; two grand-daughters, Whitney Beach Pinkston and Dr. Elizabeth Beach McNeely; several cousins; and two very special friends, her neighbor and 1941 Chattanooga High School classmate Helen Griffen and her care giver Carol Turner.The body will lie in state where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Honerary pall bearers are Jim Igou and George Mitchell.The services for Ruby will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Chaplain Ferd White officiating.The family would like to thank the entire Northpark Memorial Hospital and intensive care staffs and Dr. Robert Berglund for their extreme kindness extended during the last two weeks.Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
