Betty Griffith

Betty Johnston Griffith, 86, of Lookout Mountain, Ga., and Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013. Betty "Aunt Johnny" was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be remembered for her joy of life, long lasting friendship, and her artistic skills. She was born to the late Albert Sidney Johnston and Bernice Tucker Johnston on April 26, 1927 in Martin, TN. She graduated from Ward Belmont Prep School in 1949 and completed her degree in Fine Arts at UTC in 1951. She worked as a Fashion Illustrator in two ten year periods before the birth of her children and when they had grown into young adults. She was preceded in death by her loving companion of 20 years, Murray Funderburg, Jr.; husband, Farris Wayne Griffith; son, Albert Sidney Johnston, III; sisters, Mary Lou Brown and Nettie Jenkins; and brothers, Ben Johnston and Albert Sidney Johnston, II.Survivors include her daughters Melissa (David) Fannon, of Pataskala, Oh., and Melanie (Barry) Miller, of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many loving family members.Condolences may be sent to www.lanesouthcrestchapel.com.Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with her son-in-law, Pastor David Fannon officiating.The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 19, from 1-3 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
