Bill Lassiter

Rev. William H. "Bill" Lassiter, 77, died Saturday Jan. 25, 2014 in a Chattanooga hospital. A minister in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church for over 30 years when he retired in 1999, he had served in the Chattanooga area for 25 years, and was a member of Holly Avenue United Methodist Church in South Pittsburg. Born in Sullivan County, Tenn., to the late Ernest P. and Hilda Pearl Cantrell Lassiter, he was a graduate of DeKalb County High School and Martin Jr. College, and received degrees from Tennessee Wesleyan and Emory. Rev. Lassiter is survived by his wife, Sally M. Lassiter, of Guild; children, Kathryn (Greg) Murphy, of Culloden, Ga., Tom Lassiter, of El Paso, Texas, Logan Carmichael, of Jasper, Tommy Harney and Patsy Harney, of Dayton; granddaughters Jennifer (Zach) Ogden and Brittany (Aaron) Watson; grandson Jon Wilson, and several great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends today from 4-8 p.m. Central at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg. Funeral services will be held at Holly Avenue United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. Central time, with Rev. Michael Johnson and Rev. Joe Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Holly Avenue United Methodist Church Building Fund or Youth Ministries.
