David Blackwell

David Alan Blackwell, 66, of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014. David was an independent spirit and heroic cancer fighter. David was born in Sheffield, Ala., on Jan. 29, 1948. He was the last of four children of Maurice Blackwell and Sara Herrin Blackwell. David left many special memories as a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and loyal friend. David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary; and son, Alan (Cindy) Blackwell; grandsons, Jacob and Kyle; and daughter, Sara Blackwell (Dan) McNally and grandson Joseph. In addition he is survived by his brothers, John (Elba Lue), and Russell (Judy), and one sister, Cindy (Randy) Farris. David graduated from Sheffield High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in May, 1967. He was honorably discharged after serving for four years including a tour in Vietnam. He then attended the University of Alabama and graduated with a business degree. He retired from his career with TVA after 33 years. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military rites being conducted. Pallbearers will include Davids nephews with nieces serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4:308 p.m. today at the funeral home.
